Seasons like chili powder, garlic powder, and salt BEFORE frying them. Then, add melted cheese and bacon after. I wouldn't suggest this as an every day snack because of the fat count, but DANG are they good!

Here are a couple of French fry tricks: Always start with fresh potatoes. To keep the french fries golden brown, put them in a bucket of ice water with a little lemon squeezed in it. Preheat oil to 335 degrees. Cook fries until they become translucent (slightly cooked) then pull them out of oil for about 2 minutes. Then cook them until done. This makes fries extra crispy! Always sprinkle seasonings whether salt, seasoned salt or whatever you like just after the fries are pulled from the grease, but not over the grease or seasonings will burn the oil. My favorite way to enjoy them is chili cheese fries. Mound up some fries cooked as above, sprinkle with seasoned salt, then ladle on some chili (not too runny). Grate cheddar and American cheese on top, sprinkle some chopped onions over it, then melt cheese in oven. Mmm, Mmm good.

Its not always about making them taste better, its the quality of the potato that is used. Most restaurants use a low quality fry that isn't worth eating no matter what is done to it. Steak fries and fries with the skin on usually are nasty. Usually fast food joints have the best fries, like McDonalds, Wendy's, Jack In The Box and Rally's. I find that a good quality fry will taste better w/o ketchup. Overall french fries are kiddie food and adults who smother their food in ketchup need to grow up. Whenever I go to a good restaurant, I specifically sub them for baked potato or onion rings even if I have to pay extra. It goes back to what I said before, french fries and ketchup are kiddie foods!!!!

OVEN FRENCH FRIES

1 tbsp. oil

Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Peel potatoes and cut into long strips about 1/2 inch wide. Dry strips thoroughly on paper towels. Toss in a bowl with oil as if making a salad. When strips are thoroughly coated with the oil, spread them in a single layer on a cookie sheet and place in preheated oven for 35 minutes.
Turn strips periodically to brown on all sides. If a crispier, browner potato is desired, run under broiler for a minute or two. Sprinkle with salt before serving.

Makes 6 servings.

HOPE THIS HELPS! IT'S DELICIOUS;)

According to an episode of Good Eats on the Food Network (I think?), you want to slice up your potatoes into slices then let them sit in warm water for 15 minutes to loosen up the starch. After that, you season it with whatever you like (salt, cayenne, etc..) fry it in oil for 2-3 minutes. Take them out and let the oil drip out of it (no paper towels) and then fry them again until they are golden brown. Allow for the fries to sit on a baking tray in the oven for a short bit before serving.

Anyways, I think the key to french fries is about:
1.) Loosening the starch by letting it sit in warm water
2.) Double fry 'em
3.) Don't put fries on paper towels to dry, use a strainer or baking tray with grills.

salt is the main thing for good french fries. it always makes them taste better to. so add the salt! if ur one of those people who try to be health then get the "no salt" stuff, it actually does taste like salt too.

You can bake or deep fry them. Some people add different kinds of salt( onion salt , garlic salt) Different thicknesses might help too. Like ranch fries instead of just french fries.

i put cajun seasoning on myne right after i pull them out of the deep fryer or oven. it gives htem a really good taste. if you dont have any, try seasoning salt. it tastes a lot better then just normal table salt.

i also dip myne in chili or melted velveeta cheese or ranch dressing instead of ketchup .
