Well, first you must keep in mind that a large part of the government is the FDA, which keeps the politicians afloat with backing drugs designed to "treat" the illnesses that are caused by poor diets. Billions of dollars are spend by consumers on FDA approved medications for treatment of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other illnesses that are PROVEN to be caused by poor diet. The meat industry turns over the glands, hormones, and other parts of slaughtered animals to pharmaceutical companies that turn those things into medications. For example, Armour thyroid, a popular thyroid medication, is made by the same company that makes Armour hot dogs! The glands of the slaughtered cows and pigs are turned into a profitable medication. The meat industry profits both from meat, milk, and drugs. The FDA and federal government heavily endorse and subsidize both the meat and pharmaceutical industries. It would hurt the profit margin of the government to go agains the meat industry, so they all just keep on getting richer, while the consumers are fooled into thinking meat is essential to the human diet-and then being medicated for the illnesses created by eating that meat. Its a win-win situation for the meat industry and govenment, and a no win situation for the consumers. Most consumers are completely CLUELESS as to the truth about the meat and pharmaceutical companies brainwashing of society. If most people knew the truth about how meat is farmed, there would be many more vegetarians in the world-but sadly, most people remain blissfully ignorant, and go on believing what the FDA says is a "healthy" diet. I am sure I will get a load of "thumbs down" from the people who don't want to believe this, but anyone who is curious only needs to check out http://www.factoryfarming.org or meetyourmeat.com to learn the facts. Once you know, its a real wake up call. For those of you who just quickly give me a thumbs down, I hope you don't learn the truth the hard way-the way I did. Do yourself a favor, and check out the facts.

First off, I am not a fan of red meat. But in small amounts, lower fat (lean) red meat is a healthy source of protein. The problem lies more in the fact that many americans would rather eat a ten ounce or even higher piece of steak, than the recommended 3 oz! So it is not the meat itself that is bad, but the way most people eat it.

The Food Pyramid is presented to us by the Department of Agriculture, not the Department of Health and Human Services. That alone should make anyone wanting to eat healthily question the goal of the pyramid. The Department of Agriculture was created to promote the farming interests of our country.

In other words they are more concerned with seeing a profit for the farmers than they are in seeing a healthy nation. That is not their concern. The Pyramid is a marketing tool.

Well, that's politics for you. But, no one can decide what is right for you. That's just not fair play, so eat chicken and fish if that is what you want. I eat red meat because it contains a good amount of iron and personally I don't care what the government thinks about it.

I do believe, we can seriously do without the red meat. Now a days, it is double this or triple that. We need to learn how to eat in moderation, we some of us tend to over do. Some of us, need things, spelled out to us, and need to see the health reports. Then, some still don't learn.

Money. Pure and simple. Look, do you think we are not advanced enough to cure the common cold? Sure we can, BUT if we did, take a look at your local grocery store aches and pains isle. All those products would be no longer necessary putting those companies and hundreds of thousands out of work. Like the legendary "C" pill. Is there a cancer pill? Probably, but its far more lucrative to treat cancer than it is to cure it. I love my country, but lets face it, money is what we are all about.

i will ban the a lot fom eating meat when I take ability. we could desire to decrease the testosterone point of the common American conservative, loose-thinking, racist, bigotted homophobic ability-rapist male by eliminating meat. basically while adult adult males are vegetarians and may well be efficiently castrated can this usa flow in the direction of a pacifist-socialist paradigm.

the government can only impose so much before it turns into a true fascist state. the right for people to have access to healthier alternatives is as important as having access to red meat.
