simple, we allow our politicians to micromanage the war...furthermore, it's no longer a war...our troops should be playing a supporting role now with law enforcement at the fore-front!

The people must be with and support military or police forces if they are to succeed. No city or local police department can exist without the support of their community.
Military force can be used to destroy a country or another army, but Hitler learned the hard way that you can't win a war in detail against the world. You can destroy the world or many of the countries, but that would also be self destructive. Thank goodness the people are beginning to dismantle this administration or who knows where they would take us.
In the case of Iraq, the people of Iraq and the people of the USA are against our military forces being there.
The war was for political and economic purposes. Securing the vast oil reserve in Iraq for big oil profits by the oil companies was job one.
The final outcome will be good for the USA and the world because oil will soon be obsolete as a fuel for producing electricity and powering vehicles.
In 1965 I saw the Army's new vehicle that used water for fuel. When there was no fuel at the pump in 1975, I called the US Army Transportation School where the vehicle had been displayed and found there was no trace of that vehicle.

The proper WAR, if there was one in this case, was over with the surrender of Iraqi Troops and fleeing of Saddam.
The motives were quite different. The intentions very material-iastic and greedy.-- OIL and oil related profits !!!!!
The very bases on which the said attack was based was flawed- that the Iraqis possessed Weapons of Mass Destructions-- all searches before and after the war have yielded no such evidence.
In any case, the Iraqi Troops having surrendered and Saddam and team decidedly out, the US should have pulled out it's troops- which it purposely did not- and to date is non committal about the dates of withdrawal.
Now, let's do a bit of analysis.
What was the price of CRUDE pre Iraq war?? about US$ 20 per barrel. What levels it touched within few months of the 'WAR"?? and what is it now?? US$ 72 per barrel or so.
A 3.6 times increase!!!!!!-- without there being any crunch what-so-ever on the supplies side ever-- in fact there have been gluts-- over supplies.
What the heck happened?
the US and the OIL Majors-- mostly belonging to the US and allies-- own fat chunks of rights on oil produced globally-- the increase in price does not go wholly to the producer country--- the extracted OIL is owned by the OIL majors ( Pvt Companies) mostly-- while the producing nation gets only a pre determined price and in some cases, a small share of the elevated prices. They are raking in TRILLIONS of Dollars annually by stage managing the availability and prices.
By controlling the output in Iraq-Kuwait and perpetually threatening the other Middle Eastern countries by its military presence in a ruined Iraq, the USA is in a position to brow beat and manage the prices.
THAT, my dear, is the reason behind the 'WAR'-- and it ain't gonna end soon-- so what if a few hundred thousand Iraqi lives are lost a year- or a few thousand American and allied lives-- who cares- long as they can rake it piles of profits for themselves. and the OIL and WAR companies-- the profits must keep flowing-- that's MOST IMPORTANT.

The reason we can't and won't win the war in Iraq is a complex Question. First of all there are 3 different factions that want to run the country. # 1 is the Sunni extremists backed by al-Qaida .They are the most violent. #2 is the powerful Shiite militant force who are backed by the U.S fighting al-Qaida and 3rd is the minority Kurdish to the North also backed by the U.S.A. The real reason this war can't be won by The United States is because we put our troops in a Country that can't live together. ''Mark my words!" when our troops leave that dirty piece of land they call The Country of Iraq, Civil War will decide the Faith of its People.

in case you track in to CNN the former time-honored who became in can charge of Iraq (Sanchez) is announcing only the different of what you're saying. Many former military generals who're now retired have come forth and stated how the conflict is being run from the politicians in Washington fairly of what's occurring on the conflict container. circumstances have replaced. Please get present day. What troops are announcing we are triumphing ? How approximately being a touch extra particular. it truly is a blanket question to declare the least. O.ok. so which you do no longer basically like the respond. and that i will't see the ten factors for the suited answer on account which you do no longer like it. Oh nicely.

I think the "war" was won rather quickly, but the part of getting the Iraqi police/military on their feet, since they NEVER have had an honest one will take more than 5 years..Im a Marine and i dont feel one ounce of shame as you do!!

If you count the rebuilding of Germany, Italy, and Japan then WWII lasted a lot longer then 5 years. Look up the Werewolves sometime in Germany.
Basically. from your question, you demonstrate that you have no concept of modern war or asymmetrical warfare.

The reason is an extended war is more money for big business. There is a civil war going on there too which has been instigated more by the US and Brits.

Because one can't teach ignorant people anything. The Middle East, besides Israel, is loaded with the most ignorant, backward people on the planet. It's hopeless.
