I am trying to re-build my credit and would like to get a credit card where I can use in the meantime to to book hotels, rentals etc. Pre-paid cards are okay, but I have known some companies not accepting them. Is there also a company that can provide a individual with a card with so-so credit rating?

You could try a secured credit card but typically these are rather small limits. Hotels and car rentals usually run much larger amounts to test your card available credit and low limit cards could be rejected. That's probably why prepaid cards are sometimes rejected.
