the info you may have is more than likely not exact figures or current. most of it is Freedom of information act stuff but the actual number is not public info due capability's reasons and operational tempo. you can see how many of what ever was released maybe last year but not how many are air worthy, grounded, or otherwise not in service. some of the figures actual go of the manufactures out put but does not mean that they entered US service.. It is like the top speed of the fastest air plan in the world is classified. they tell you it is so fast but not the exact speed. It is important for any one trying to fight us to know the numbers and capability's of our equipment so they can learn how to defeat them and how many it will take to get rid of them. There for we never publish actual figures of operational equipment.

It certainly isn't classified... all that information is from open-source locations. Besides Jane's, if you wish to take the TIME, you can go through the Pentagon Budget.

What WOULD be classified (Official Use Only or Confidential) would be the STATUS of any given aircraft or squadron at a given moment in time.

VERY amusing to read in your prior question that someone actually thought that Marine and Naval Aviator are "interchangeable". I respect my Marine brothers, but I always hit the catwalk if one was landing on the carrier while I was preflighting !!

now these number may or may not be accurate... people may say its classifed because 1) we dont want other countries (afghanastan, iraq) to know what we are working with 2) the people you ask might not know and are saying that its classiied as a cover up

Why do you care what "people" say about something being classified? It either is classified by the government or it isn't. Kinda like being pregnant huh?

The reason is simple......why make it easier for the enemy to find out about our high tech equipment.
