I think eating fast foods, pre-packaged foods, fried foods, salty and sugary foods are harmful to you if you too much. Remember: every food should be taken in moderation. Don't deprive yourself but be careful. Counting calories works good. Exercise is always helpful. Gyms are nice but you can create your own gym at home. You can work at your pace. Walk your dog. Take a ride on your bike. Change your routine. Find time to exercise during the week whether it's 30 minutes or an hour. You have to decide what days and what time. Some people I know exercise three times a week. Weightlifting is cool because you lose and you tone at the same time. ;-)

Actually, really anything is okay to eat as long as it's in moderation. There is no "bad" food. The more a person deprives themselves of a certain food, the greater the chance that the craving for that food will become so strong that the person caves and goes overboard. Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is about getting the right nutrients, adequate exercise, and enough sleep. Stress also plays a big factor in the inability to loose weight, so by depriving yourself it may just perpetuate a yo-yo diet. If you are really interested, look into seeing a nutritionist. There are also many resources for good health and nutrition. I think if you call the American Diabetes Association, you can order the food exchange booklet. Also Weight Watchers is a great program that works. They have a plan called the flex plan, and basically everything is assigned a point value - based on your weight you have a certain amount of points you can use per day, plus weekly bonus points. So there aren't really any major "no-no" foods. Being a teenager there is so much pressure sometimes to be thin, going into it with a healthy attitude and knowledge will be your best asset. Eating Disorders run rampid, and they are easy to slip into (I'm recovered after struggling with one for over 12 years)

Good luck to you !!

Well, since you are really young. You probably eat fast food pretty often. I would say that would be the first step. If you do eat out, just make sure you have a salad with grilled chicken, or if you really want some kind of a sandwich, you can have a grilled chicken on a wheat bun, but don't get the french fries. The main thing is to stay away from white bread, fried foods, potatoes, pastas, and creamy soups, sauces, etc. You might even want to cut down on red meat. Hope this helps. Good luck!

PS. I also started walking 3 to 5 times a week. For at least 30 minutes.

I think always a sensible way to reduce weight is not to avoid foods altogether but to cut down on those that are loaded with carbohydrates and fat.For instance ease up on bread and potatoes, cakes, sweets and biscuits and increase your fruit and vegetables..All the strict regimes and diet fads are doomed to fail as they introduce a regime which is impossible to stick to. Better to adopt aplan which you can keep to for life and that does not feel like a punishment. Beware of any diet which cuts out whole food groups. Good luck.

Foods with high sugar and salt content and any beverage that has calories. Don't drink any soda. Not even diet soda is good for you! Try to stick with water and herbal teas. Most people don't realize that they consume 1/4 of their daily caloric intake in beverages alone! If you want your tea to be sweet, add honey. If you are craving something sweet, grab a piece of fruit. Something salty? Grab a handful of lightly salted nuts (not peanuts).

Good Luck!

I'm truly sorry sweetheart, but at your age you probably should avoid just about everything you enjoy! Stick to salads, fruit, vegetables and a general healthy diet plan and you will be fine. Good luck and don't worry - you can treat yourself to that sticky bun occasionally
