Over 60, and can drive a whole lot better than you can spell.
60 is the new 50 didn't you know?
I drive better and more safely than you young people. Passed my driving test at 17 and in the following 43 years have had one accident and that was not my fault, some idiot aged about 25 drove into the back of me while I was stationary at red lights!
Show some respect for your elders.

The most dangerous road users by far are young inexperienced drivers by a long chalk. Older drivers have much more experience of handling many types of different driving situations, which youngsters don't have. It is a misconception that older drivers cause more accidents usually put about by the young to detract from their own god awful driving "skills". I take it you are reasonably young as you seem to think 60 is old, but it really isn't, people live well into their 90's now a days so it is actually not old at all. I think everyone regardless of age should resit a refresher course every 10 years or so and youngsters be limited to an engine size of a bout 1000cc similar to lawnmower, until they prove they are worthy. Don't be such an ignorant young pup!

Well well well so here we have a driver that knows he aint gonna run someone over eh! Get a life my friend, statistics already prove you wrong for a start. Also, check out insurance company profiles you will find that older people pay far less for insurance hope you understand logic better than you can spell because that shows they are a lesser risk. However, that does not say that young people can't drive properly because I know a lot of youngstrers who take great pride in their cars and in looking after them.
Finally, the next time you are driving around an estate near schools shops houses etc just imagine the horrifying prospect of a six year old running out from between two cars and straight in front of you................when he comes back down from the air and lands on the bonnet of your car.................does that make you a bad driver??????

There are problems with all drivers no matter what age. The young ones are too preoccupied with their tunes and cell phones. The middle age are trying to close a business deal or fax while driving. The elderly just aren't with the program any more. I think as a rule drivers age 70 should be retested or any driver , no matter what age, who has multiple driving infractions in a 1 year period. Some people at age 70 are sharper than a 30 year old. It all depends on the individual.

Whilst I appreciate your point and would probably agree to an extent - after the age of 65 yrs, and only a reaction test - I would respectfully point out that the vast majority of accidents are caused by young people in their first few years of driving. Ask any insurance company! Having been involved in an accident involving an 'old git' I know how you feel though!

I think there should be many cases for people having to re-take the driving test and I think the police should be given the power to order a test re-take for witnessing poor driving. I do quite a lot of driving on motorways and the main culprits of poor driving are women in their twenties who sit in the middle lane at 50 to 60mph and will not move out of the way even when then inside lane is empty.
Taking away the privilage of driving away from someone just because they are elderly is not an option. By all means take it away from fools such as I've mentioned because they are inconsiderate and inept and basically, just cannot drive.
Edit: You seem to be very predudiced in your views, how would you like it if someone said you can't drive because you are black and therefor thick?

Actually, there's quite a few people UNDER 60 that should re-take their test. So it's not an age thing - it's a good or bad driver thing.
I think I'd like to see some figures of how many accidents the different age-groups have before I made any pronouncements of this sort.

Well...Stuart...if you make it to 60...ask yourself that question will you? Seems like every young person doesn't realize that one day if they are lucky they too will be old (not that 60 is old). I've seen 70 year olds that drive better than 20 year olds. I'm 58 and will put my ability to control a vehicle up against anyone's. Live a nice longgggg life cause when you are elderly I want you to have some young kid tell you "since you're old maybe you shouldn't be allowed to drive".

Perhaps this will answer your question ..Why do younger drivers pay more for insurance premium than an older driver .its because the younger drivers are inconsiderate and poor drivers through lack of experiance and poor driving test examiners.do you know that insurance companies are offering the over 50 drivers cheaper car insurance? when a person gets older they normally have to attend doctors for some health problem and a doctor is duty bound to inform the person if he thinks they are unfit for driving I agree people should be tested for alertness at about 70 yr old not before..
Nicky above states older drivers force younger drivers to overtake at dangerous spot or places ,advise nicky to look up and read her highway code under no circumstance s should you overtake at a bad spot/place or bend on the road !Do you get the point ?

Well, maybe not over 60, but over 75, yes. I live in South Florida where there are alot of elderly drivers on the road. Most are fine with the exeption that they drive a little slower than everyone else, but there are a few fatal accidents every year caused by an elderly person running someone over. The truth is at some point, their reflexes slow down, or they get confused and hit the exelerator instead of the breaks, etc. It wouldn't hurt to test them again after a certain age.
