As a person who uses slang and proverbs in everyday speech; it means, To love 'someone' to the death.
Meaning: you would feel extremely strong affection for someone, until you die or that other person dies.
Like, till death, do we part.

Well, I think the term means that the love is there until death.
Personally I think it came from the " 'til death do us part." As in a marriage ceremony.

The character "Lenny" in Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" frequently loved his pet animals to death by (hugging)squeezing them to death. Go figure.

It's just an ignorant way of saying that you love someone dearly. However, I do not use that term. I usually say I love you to life.

Seriously - I think that "loving someone to death" is a sign of co-dependent behavior. If you love someone more than your own life..............better think about your relationship.
Unfortunately I have been in co-dependent relationships and it is not an easy thing to deal with. Lot of passive aggressive crap instead of honest communication.

I does sound rather spooky, doesn't it? As if they could hug you so hard you died of broken ribs puncturing your lungs. However, I think what they really mean is "unto death;" that is, for all your life.
At least I sure HOPE that's what they mean!

usually one of the parties want to end the relationship, the other cant bare that so kills there partner then themselves, sad but thats the way life seems t go.
