I assume you are trying to play video dvds, it would help if you posted your distro as you may have some of this stuff already. What you need are the following:
a choice of video players, like kaffeine http://hftom.free.fr/ and xine http://xinehq.de/ (make sure you get xine lib & xine ui
and realplayer 10 http://www.real.com/linux

Then you will need the codecs which are:

libdvdcss http://freshmeat.net/projects/libdvdcss/
libxine
win32codec http://packman.links2linux.org/package/Win32-Codecs
These packages are all available as RPMs you would need to search for distro specific ones.

Depending on which distribution of Linux you are using, you may need to install the DeCSS package yourself.

In the United States of America, using the DeCSS decoder is illegal. It may be illegal in other countries as well.
