If your income in 2006 was more than the filing requirement, then you must file.
If you owe taxes then you must file your return, and there is no time limit for filing. You will have to pay interest and may be penalty. So earlier you file better it is.

If you expect a refund then you must file by April 15, 2010 (within three years of your regular date of return) otherwise you will not get the refund money.

It's too late to pay without penalty. It's never too late to pay, and in fact it is mandatory that you do so.

Did you get an extension from the IRS? If not go to your nearest one and tell them. It's ez.
