For me it sounds pompous, childish and pretentious.

It implies that the one who said it does not need any money at all for survival, and need. Real or not, he or she is saying that when they get your money , they will only squander it away for something totally unnecessary and frivolous.

Real successful businessmen, and truly rich people may have oodles of money stashed away in the banks, assets and possessions but will never commit a grave blunder of insulting the source of the money in this manner.
