I am growing weary of protestants calling my Church and my Pope "antichrist" every time I post a real, thoughtful question. Here are a couple of quotes for you:
1 John 2:22 - Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.
1 John 4:3 - and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.
Now, you may not agree with the Pope on doctrine, but He preaches Christ, and he does NOT "...deny that Jesus is the Christ", as it says in 1 John 2:22. So, for all you people who tell this Catholic to read his Bible, I say read YOUR Bible, and stop being an ignorant bigot. You want to find an antichrist? Find someone who REJECTS Christ!

1 John 4:3 tells us how to identify the spirit of the antichrist, "but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world." The current pope, Benedict XVI, acknowledges Jesus as being from God and Jesus as coming in the flesh (see 1 John 4:2). While we disagree with Pope Benedict XVI on numerous areas of Catholic doctrine, his view of the Person of Jesus Christ is very Biblical. Therefore, we do not believe that Pope Benedict XVI is the antichrist. We are not even willing to say that a future pope will be the antichrist. While we believe it is a possibility, the Bible does not give specific enough information for us to be dogmatic. A future pope very well may be the antichrist, or perhaps the antichrist’s false prophet (Revelation 13:11-17). If so, this future pope will be clearly identified by a denial of Jesus as coming in the flesh.

I would not refer to the pope as the antichrist. While I do admit to having some doctrinal differences with the catholic church I do believe you guys are Christians. However I must admit to being a bit annoyed at this current pope. All that malarkey about you guys being the only true church. I have never read anywhere in the Bible where the pope has the authority to determine who is and who is not the church.

Hi and good morning....I'm not sure on 'why' protestants and 'other alike' would call the Catholics or the Pope the anti-Christ. I'm not a born Catholic but baptized as a Methodist and then 'Saved' in the Baptist Church. I don't call any religion as the Anti-Christ simply because there is no reason. We all have our own preference in our religion and it is wrong to judge other religions for their beliefs and ideals on what they believe. In the Book of Revelation it states that the number of the Beast or aka the (anti-Christ) is the numerical value of his name equals to 666. Christian scholars and others have numerous of times tried to decipher this code and figure out who is the Anti-Christ with no luck. Who knows who the Anti-Christ is. It could be anyone, we don't actually know. Now John who wrote the Book of Revelation gave us clues in which he saw in a dream. But was this a dream he had or an illusion of dementia? Some priests and ministers state that the Book of Revelation should had never been placed in the Bible itself. Hmmm? I wonder why? In the Bible it states 'Beware of false Prophets...which means beware of those that pretends to believe in God and preaches about our God but have other intentions. How does one know if the prophet is worthy or not if they state to believe in our Lord but actually doesn't. In the past years society and others thought that Hitler was the Anti-Christ and another Pope (can't remember which one) and also Winston Churchill but as you can see neither one of them were the Anti-Christ. We probably will never know who the real Anti-Christ is until we are close to the second coming of our Lord. We can all assume but we won't actually know till the time is near. Don't listen to those who claim this and that because they don't really know but just starting 'hate and discontent'. Have faith in your religion and don't let others discourage you on what you believe. This is their intention. Believe in your God and in your faith and don't always believe what others say. Don't dwell on the negatives but praise on the positives. Have a very blessed day!

The Pope may not be the Antichrist. The Catholic church is the great whore riding upon the beast in Rev 17, 18, Jeremiah 50, 51.
Is allowing every form of false worship into the catholic church what Christ died for? I think not!
ps- Kicking out the homos and whore mongers would be a good idea.

If you look at archeological records and the practice of assigning numbers to letters or letter combinations and the appropriate greek translation of the bible, you will find that Nero, emperor of Rome at the time was most likely the antichrist mentioned in Revelations. The 666 corresponds to the numerologic translation of the name as used at that time.
Most references as written in the Bible were written for the people of that time, and Nero was elevated to "god status" by the people of Rome, this went against the teachings of the early christians.

Twitney Freakin' Spheres.
Actually, anyone and everyone is the Antichrist until they get in trouble with the law or they're about to die. Then they suddenly "find Jesus" in hopes of evading justice, death, or whatever other vile fate awaits them.
Me? I'm staying agnostic until I have proof of something, but even then, I won't worship. There are more AntiOdins and AntiZeuses in the world than there are Antichrists, after all.

anyone who go against Christ or the Messiah automatically becomes the anti-christ. so this means, regardless of who we are, we believe in God or not, etc., can be called an anti-Christ the moment we oppose the work of Christ.

Who cares if people on Y answers think the pope is the antichrist. Some people think that I am the antichrist. Some people still think the earth is flat. Do you see where I am going? Time spent on caring what people think is the GREATEST waste of time outside of maybe asking any woman how her day went.
