Hi,
I am shipping out with the NAVY in Feb 11,2008 I will be Hospital Corpsman. I will be Reserve since I already have some education(in other fields) and am already somehow established, however I would love to have the opportunity of working in the Health industry(I live in Miami and this is probably the only safe industry here lately) I am not sure that this 14 weeks training program with the NAVY will help me much in the Civilian world. I was wondering if any of you out there could advise me how to make the most of this rating, I am not even sure if I will be a paramedic once training is over.

Resign from the military and apply at a hospital in Miami. Follow your dream.

Used to be, it was not that helpful in the civilian world. However, now the military as a whole tries to make sure that training can match up to civilian skills. The Navy will train you for what the Navy needs, as with all other branches of the military. But, you will at least have a basic knowledge. Since you are reserve, there will be certain college and vocational financial aid programs you will be eligible for. I do know that there is a program in the Navy to get your LPN and RN. And I do know of one person in the US Army Reserve that the US Army paid his way through Physicians assistant school. The Navy may have the same program.

What is the world coming to?? I agree with rabidliberal's answer. A bit more training / certification and you may work as a an EMT or Nurse. Lots of hospitals have triage nurses at admissions, to sort out the level of urgency and have appropriate care given.
Agreeing with a liberal this morning, it may be the end of western civilization as we know it. Maybe rabidliberal is a conservative plant? Closet conservative? Hahahaha.
