Man you are hitting the nail on the head. Praise God.
I hope our family in Christ is receiving this.
I just had to call my preacher last week and apologize to him for saying something about him in front of my kids.
Then as painful as it was, I had to call a family meeting and apologize to my kids for running my mouth off.
Very humiliating.
Good preaching!

My question to you, Don..is: (and I am asking in the Spirit of "brotherly love) IF YOU are seeing these people in your church complaining about the issues, or other people in front of their children (or with other folks) ...are YOU going up to these people & asking them WHY they are complaining??, & then maybe asking THEM what can we do as a TEAM to get the issues "right" or "straightened out"?
If YOU see things going wrong & do nothing, are you not a part of the problem rather than the solution? Are you NOT doing the same thing HERE on Yahoo Answers? (Instead of at the church) By "murmering" against your fellow brothers & sisters in Christ? ....Hummm??? Keep in mind that we ALL are just sinners saved by Grace.

the tongue is the most unruly member of the body. if we cannot discipline our tongues, then we cannot claim to be able to teach our children discipline. i remember when i first got in church, i was seventeen, and family members would come over to my grandmother's house just to sit around and talk bad about everything that happened at church as far back as 10 years prior. it made me sick to my stomach and i had to leave the room or the house at times. i am glad that i had a conviction against tearing the preacher or my brothers and sisters down as a new convert. children who are exposed to this type of gossip at an early age will likely not grow up respecting or loving the pastor or their brothers and sisters in the Lord or having any reverence for the things of God.

If there's something to complain about, we're supposed to-check the Bible on that one.
Belonging to a "church" does not make one a Christian. Churches are made up of believers, and believers are, first and foremost, sinners. Redeemed sinners, but sinners nonetheless. Consider it checks-and-balances, we need to keep an eye on our own behavior and see that it is Christlike, we also need to monitor churches to see that they are remaining faithful to the gospel and not to the teaching or preaching of any particular man.
My children are Christians, raised in church, but also raised with honesty. Their questions are answered with honesty, "Mom, what's up with that tv preacher who just got caught with...?"
I think a good knowledge of the Bible combined with a prayerful relationship with God will help anyone trying to sort out "good" and "bad".
Regarding churches, we are to admonish with love for one another when we see another believer acting in ways contrary to the gospel.
If we love our church and find it doing wrong we help to change it by being the Christian we claim to be.

It's letting them know that they need God, not the foolishness of religion. If they get tired enough, they'll seek God. It doesn't say much for the church when Christians have to find God everywhere BUT church. Think about what this means for non-believers as well.

It causes confusion. This is a touchy subject with me, so I will be polite and respectful. If I want my son to be an auto mechanic, I would not complain about the blisters on my hands or the grease under my nails. I would focus on the positive side. If I wanted him to be a surgeon, I wouldn't gripe about the hours or the constant sight of blood and suffering.
All of this if I REALLY wanted to convince him.......

Complaining (murmurring) plants the seeds of unbelief and doubt in the Lord.
God Bless You!

I don't see that in my Church. Maybe you should get a new Church?

Showing them what a hypocrite you are and teaching them that God's House is only a meeting place and not a place of Worship.

Excellent point though it also makes me wonder what it is doing to those that are complaining.
Are they defining the depth of their understanding of God's Grace, love and Mercy?
