Many say its not relevant, but why? What do you think the Bible's content is all about? Even if you don't believe in God please explain. Have you read it for yourself? Would you consider reading it? If not why not?

It's ALL pointing toward the Person of Jesus Christ. No more, no less. That's all it claims to be. That was the view of the Ancient Church. It's not a science book, it's not an astronomy book, it's a collection of books...as St. John said: "...but these are written that ye may believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and believing, have life in His Name."

As Saint Irenaeus said, in around 150 A.D.:

(Against Heresies 3.1.1)

“We have learned from none others the plan of our salvation, than from those through whom the gospel has come down to us, which they did at one time proclaim in public, and, at a later period, by the will of God, handed down to us in the Scriptures, to be the ground and pillar of our faith.”

Old Testament- A collection of myth, history and law books for the Jewish people.
New Testament- an attempt to make the Old Testament relevant for the time which it was written in.

Just like all books there will be bits which offer sound advice, and bits which are complete rubbish.

The only bits I'm interested in are the mythological bits from the Old testament. Many concepts don't translate well/at all, and as I can't read Hebrew, I'll give it a miss for the moment.

I do like this interpretation of an early bit http://www.caw.org/articles/otherpeople.html

Let's just look at the 10 commandments for a moment.

Forget the 2 about love the Lord your God etc - I don't personally, but if you want to that's ok; you can account to Him for that.

Anyway, the remainder are very relevant - do not steal, do not murder, don't sleep with somebody else's spouse, be happy with what you have, take a rest once a week etc.

As for the rest of it, I would encourage you to read it (start with Luke, John & Acts to keep it short - & get a translation if modern language) with an open mind.

There are those who will disagree but those are also the ones who are making a buck off of building their own religion, an existing religion, or exploiting an age long trend be it for their own greed, denial or undermining of a good thing. And there are those who will know exactly what I'm saying. Religion is a system of beliefs that are built off of one or two good lines that click in a persons mind so they run with it and create a new faith. That's why we have such split denominations around the world today. simply put the bible is a love letter from God to you. It is an instruction book on how to get through this flesh life in happiness and prosperity. It is an explanation to you of who and why you are and why you are where you are. It is an instruction book on how to raise healthy well mannered children and a happy home. It instructs us how to raise good crops and livestock. It gives us a promise that there is somewhere better waiting for us and that we are not forgotten and alone. It reminds us that no matter how bad things get here (because we haven't read in understanding 'The Letter') that if we remember our beginning and call out to our Father in sincerity that he will remember us and take us back, that we have a better resting place than we have ever known and that he has a place set aside for us, waiting for us if only we call out to Him and believe. God bless you all.

It is only the history of the Jewish people, its beliefs and practices. I do not think it is written by God. God sent Jesus but did not write the Bible. The Bible was written by Jewish people to account for their roots. Moreover, it has been translated a lot of times, we do not know if it is still accurate today. It is the same as other religious books like Torah or Kuran. There are people who has analyzed it like any other book, see Isaac Asimov for instance. He wrote a book about the Bible but he does not believe it is a holy book.

Yes, I have read the bible. I have also had it rammed into me at school over the years. When I was allowed to think for myself I thought what a load of absolute rubbish it was, and still is. In parts it was a fair relation of ancient history, but that was all, but was embellished by story tellers because it was not exciting enough so they added some sort of fairy stories to make it good.
I really pity those poor brainwashed christians because they have been scared to death with threats of burning in hell and all sorts of other dire happenings if they did not believe
and they would not go to heaven. and so on, and on, and on.

The whole point of all Scripture all along was to demonstrate the need for and reveal Christ Jesus.

People say its not relevant because they are not seeking God but seeking worldly things.

Studying Bible for the past 3 years. And I found it corrupted.A few parts especially Jesus's teachings in the new teastement I like them , I love them but I really hate the doctrines followed by the christians are of the church and never to be found in the Bible.

Bible is all about man's corruption in God's Word.

It is God's written revelation of himself to humankind. It is designed to show the glory of God.

It also shows how a holy God deals with sinful humanity in order to redeem them from the pit. From Genesis 3:16 to Revelation 22:21 it unfolds the story of Christ Jesus, the 'seed of the woman', who reconciles us to God. Or, perhaps given that John 1:1 calls Christ the Word who created all things, I should say 'From Genesis 1:1....'

It is the power of God unto salvation - his written word and The Word of God - the work of the Holy Spirit - the triune God gradually revealing himself over the centuries until, one day, we shall see him as he is. Hallelujah!
