I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. -John 5:24

According to the Roman Catholic Church, certainly not.

According to Hinduism? I don't know enough about Hinduism to tell you.

If the conversion was sincere, and the converter believed s/he was following God's will for him/her, it's hard to see how there could be any sin involved.

I don't believe that seeking the Lord could ever be a sin. Your religious and spiritual journey in this life can have many twists and turns; the Lord knows our hearts and souls and He loves his children. Your pursuit of Truth and want to feel complete and at peace is anything but a sin -- Godspeed.

According to me the religion of humanity is the ultimate religion.Aacharya Vinoba Bhave used to say "Dharam ka dharam se zagda kabhi nahi hota. Dharam ka adharm se zagda hota hain".If you eat veg and do not kill any body or any living being, do not harm any body then that is sufficient. Be a human. that is good & complete a religion in itself.
Uniaethism." Sabka Mailk Ek".That is the religion. You can live in your religion & respect other religions.

In the religion you leave behind, it's a sin. In the new religion you embrace, it is considered enlightenment. I would imagine this applies to just about all religions, including the two you have cited.

I'd guess that depends on Hindi concepts or non-concepts of sin.

If it's you considering conversion, I'd reconsider that choice, though.
