I got married roughly a year ago and though my husband is pretty cool that I keep my maiden name, I know it would mean a lot to him if carry his last name. We didn't go through lawyers when we did the filing, we all did it - rather he did most of the paperwork, hence me being clueless about some stuff.

The amount for the change of name in the US greencard is just minimal and it might just be more or less the same as the first application.
