How do American Truckers feel about Mexican truckers taking over the highways in America now?

And now I hear China is building ports in Mexico, so as to bypass all need for American labor.

If you like what they are doing to the trucking industry, just wait and watch as more and more of the shipping industry by passes USA ports and unloads in Mexican ports. Not only will our ports take a beating but unchecked, possible dangerous cargo, trafficking of both illegals and illegal drugs, and maybe even terrorist, cross in the unfettered, unregulated trucks. It will export both our trucking industry as well as our port traffic

I have heard all about china and I am simply pissed off about these ports. Well, it's simple folks, I now really take into consideration where my products are made before buying them. Yesterday, bought a new bed & all of it was made in the USA.

As far as the truckers go, it will take many years before they take over the US. But, the law is quite clear. They have to meet all US regulations. Al of them. The police will be on patrol and you know they will complain about being stereotyped. When the first major accident occurs because an illegal mexican was driving a truck and people die, everyone will say "I told you so". But then we will carry on as if nothing happened. By the way, you can blame that NAFTA agreement for all of this.

China can build whatever they want in Mexico using cheap labor. Good for them. The Teamsters union is up in arms about Mexican truckers on the road so freely and so are many Americans. The Teamsters have huge political clout, so I'm thinking this isn't going to hold much longer.

It's the damn trucks that they drive down there that's the biggest concern....

We expect the vehicles that are on our roads to have a minimum level of maintenance and be safe...

Doing that costs money. That's not what happens to trucks down there... they run them in any condition. We dont want those vehicles on our roads, and killing Americans.

Also.. walk around in any Mexican town where vehicles drive around. The pollution emitted from vehicles down there is horrible. It's like it was here 40 years ago... We don't want to go back to that.

We allow Canadian trucks into the U.S., because they have (and enforce) the same maintenance, safety, and environmental rules as we do...

We allow French Canadians (many of whom have minimal English skills) to drive trucks in the U.S. so it's not so much an issue of language and English aptitude.

We can't go backwards on the progress that's been made in those areas.. no one wants that.

They don't care as long as the trucks are legal on the hi-ways and the drivers are subject to the same rules and regs as American drivers. There are many more loads available then trucks available to haul them.
