This happens because the soft tissues in your mouth relax and change shape when you take your false teeth out. If you will pardon me, it's like taking a corset off - your body relaxes in to its natural shape. So, your false teeth mould the soft tissues in your mouth to the shape of the plate. Of course, it may be that if you've had you false teeth a long time or they were badly designed in the first place, it is a good idea to go and talk the problem through with your dentist.

Leaving your denture out for several hours may not be the cause of it being not fitting well when put back; possibly your gums are settling or getting a bit shrunk. A dental consultation is recommended so that the doc may decide whether you need to get a new set of denture made!
