My son just turned 2 1/2 and will not use the potty. I bought him a potty chair and he hated it. I went and bought a Sponge Bob (his favorite) seat that goes on the toilet and he hates it too. He will set on it but only with his clothes on. He screams like he is dying= and falls to the floor limp. I have tried everything: praise, rewards, but nothing works. Please help, I am afraid we are going to go from LUVS to Depends. I am all out of answers. Thanks!!

Don't give up. You already have Sponge Bob toilet seat so now just get some Sponge Bob underwear to match. Also get him a calender with stickers (explained below).

Go to your son the next morning (it's the best time to start) and say "Look what mommy bought you some big boy underwear." Take off his diaper and put on his underwear. Get a timer and set it for an hour. Once the timer goes off pick him up and take him to the potty. If he doesn't go, say "Good try!" pull his pants up and put him back where he was. If he does go congraulate him and have him put a sticker on the calender.

Be cosistant and this will work.

Been there done that! Buy him his fav cartoon type of big boy undies. Let him wear them and soil them then he will hopefully hate the feeling of being soiled. He is so use to the diaper because he cant tell when hes soiled because our diapers pull the wetness away. Try this for a few times then show him how much fun it is to tell his poop and pee good bye while it flushes down the potty. Also when traveling put big boy undies on and then a pull up on the out side (saves time and laundry but still gives them the feeling of big boy undies) Keep trying! My 21/2 yr old so is almost trained and we've been trying for 6 monthsnow.

time to put your foot down and punish if need be.

put regular big boy underwear on him and take him once an hour every hour all day every day

he is throwing a fit because it gets his diaper back and you quit pestering him about the toilet.

its something new all kids are afraid. adopt an open door policy. let him see mommy and daddy and an older siblings use the potty.

new things are scary but we as parents have to make our kids do them any way.

just wait til the first day of school. you cant decide that since he screams and cries that hes just not going you will have the state on you. get control now put your foot down and get firm hes not a baby any more

What worked for my kids is The Potty Stool http://www.thepottystool.com This stool makes any toilet kid- sized. It really helped my son to pee standing up so that he could see what was happening and connect the sensations. I like that this stool cuts potty training in half by eliminating the potty chair. This stool really made the difference for my kids. I hope this helps you.

Does he watch your husband or other boys go? I admit that I first got my son to go by letting him pee outside. Then I made sure to let him go with my dad, husband or whatever man was in my house and commented on how big boys go. Forcing never works though

He's just not ready yet. Let him sit on it with his clothes on. Putting pressure on him will only make it worse. Reward him for sitting on it (even with clothes on) with praise and encouragement. I promise you won't need depends, he will eventually get it. Good luck :)

He is not ready yet. Don't rush him. My son was fully potty trained when he was 3. When he is ready, you will know and you'll be ecstatic! lol
