As long as you have something lined up, just quit. You will never be able to use them for a reference.

This coming Wednesday is just around the corner. You can use your sick days up letting your boss know you are have surgery. After the surgery, go back to work. You meanwhile will have had a rest from all that stress. Then give him two weeks notice. It is always better to leave on good terms, you never know when you will need a recommendation from them.
You won't be able to care for those kids anyway so soon after surgery. Then you can place another add for babysitting.
You should call the people that responded to your add, and let them know. Tell them about your surgery, and let them know you will get back to them when you are fully recuperated.
You have all to gain, and nothing to lose this way.
Good luck on your surgery.

Your boss sounds rude, and ungrateful as well as uncaring for his employees everything people despise in a boss. He needs to learn that you catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar.
Personally if you want to quit you should definitely give your two week notice, that just makes your work history look better and considerate. If you can which most places allow, don't take the sick days just cash them all in except the two weeks you need for your operation. When you do so I wouldn't let anyone know you're planning on giving your notice though. If for some reason you can't cash in your sick / vacation days make sure you take them don't leave allowing them to keep your' money that you earned. If you need to you said two weeks for the surgery so just that's a perfect time to use up the rest of your sick days if you can't cash them in like I had said. Then when you give your two week notice only two weeks and you don't have to see that man / woman again. From what you said he /she out of anger or frustration may not even require you to finish the two weeks, even better. Just make sure that if they let you leave before your final two weeks is up you have them write something saying they stopped you from working your last two weeks, that way he / she can't say that you just dipped out and left.
Best of Luck to you, I know what it is like to have a boss that is just a complete asshole. So I know exactly where you're coming from.

Id take your sick time and in the middle of it give your notice. This way you'll still receive your sick pay and not have to go back into work. The last time I quit I already had a vacation planned--and that time was covered-- so I gave my two weeks notice and went on two weeks of vacation. It was great. I didnt worry about work while on my vacation and when I came back I didnt have to go back to a place where I was unhappy.

First of all, you're too emotional so calm down before you make any decisions.
Have the surgery, then go back, maybe things will have boiled over by then. If not, give 2 weeks notice before you go. You never want to leave any job on bad terms. If you do, forget about any reference there. Don't ever quit without giving notice.

If you should ever want another job working for someone else, you should put in your notice after returning from surgery. Problem is that your don't want a hole in your resume, so you can't leave this period of employment off, and you did make manager so you've achieved some success with this company.
Kind of depends on your age too. Your degree. For instance if I was working while going to high school or college for a fast food place and found something else to replace that income, I'd stick it to them. If I was thirty and working in the field I'd earned my degree in, I'd put in the notice.

This is a difficult situation. They can't fire you if you take the sick time and plan to leave immediately when it's used up, can they? That'd be my only concern.
It is so hard to work somewhere you hate even if it's for a short time like two weeks. I think the safest bet would be give them the two week notice after the sick time, but the sanest bet would be to give them your notice during the sick time, I think.
Good luck, and good for you for taking steps to change your situation.

Well, you may very well end up needing your current job situation as a reference for another job later on. I say, give a 2 week's notice. You'll probably be glad you did.

You should give notice, it could cause problems if new employees check references.
BUT...check the department of labor for your state about the vacation pay. In Illinois if you quit or are fired, the employer has to pay you any vacation time owed. You might be able to quit and take a nice fat check with instead of just taking the time off.

If you want to use the 24 sick days then I say you should be able to put in your two weeks while you are ten days into your sick leave. Two weeks is two weeks.

Always give a 2 week notice. You never know when you might need to come back to that job in the future - or you might need a reference. It is ok to give a 2 week notice, and then use your vacation time.
