Can anyone truly define God. We can't even define the universe that He spoke into existence. Then when I say this is what God is, what happens to God in my life?Wouldn't it be better to let Him be God and follow where He leads?

JACK B/FALLEN BROTHER, The example that you provided proves my point. If you had allowed God to be God in your life, You wouldn't be an atheist today.Your a man with intellectual properties that have caused you to stubble and fall.I see many here who are intrigued with your charisma. It makes me sad that a man that God has blessed with such wonderful talents, has went and buried them so deep. You may think my words are harsh and without love, but I asure you, I love you more than all your fans put together. For I cared enough to tell you the truth.

It is impossible to experience God without personal definition.

As God is an intangible, even those who believe that God is a distinct, defined quality have their own interpretation of what that quality entails. The idea among believers that they have received personal communication from God is, in effect, a personal, definitive dynamic. The Bible itself says "My sheep will know my voice." As the Bible gives no further description of that voice, it is incumbent upon the believer to provide body and form; this is why there are so many different points of view where God is concerned, with each believer feeling that they have the right idea. I have little doubt that your last line, "Wouldn't it be better to let Him be God and follow where He leads?" is in no small measure informed by the notion of someone's variant belief in God--a point of view different from your own.

This is no disrespect intended, but I hope you can appreciate that questions about the nature and substance of God are all inherently dependent on the personal interpretation of the believer.

It is academic for me since I am an Atheist, but I am a former Christian and could not refrain from comment.

Again, I find myself agreeing with Jethro.
God has given us a mind to explore ALL that He has created. For some "defining" is the best way to explore the concepts of what you are defining..& THEN e-x-p-a-n-d the thought process as the "definition" requires.
God is NOT limited by OUR definitions...He wants us to seek Him..& He will take care of the "rest". By defining some people will actually develop a closer walk with Christ!
You see as a person attempts to define God they MUST define His Nature, Who He is, What He is, How He came to "Be"..etc...as you discover the answers to marvelous questions such as these you will find yourself becoming more & more devoted to such a Loving & Awesome Creator!
"Seek and you will Find"!! (God is far bigger than ANY "box" we can put Him in) and the more you try to define Him the greater He becomes, and the more you learn about God, the more you desire to "follow where He leads" :)

This is the Muslim concept of God:

The God the One and Only
The Eternal The Absolute
He begets not and neither is He begotten
And there is nothing like unto Him.

The westeren idea that God has a physical form is not right, He is a neuter spirit, neither male nor female, He does not have a left side, right side top and bottom. And nothing in this universe is like God and the human mind can not comprehend the what God looks like.

He gets closer and closer and closer until He's right in your face, He's in every movement, every word, every thought. Defining God is defining yourself, but that can only be done through years of practice, reflection and self-love, which is being good to yourself (by not sinning), so you can "do unto others" the same way.

Once you define exactly how God fits into your life, that's all it comes down to, that's all that matters... in the end God is all that matters.

It is completely safe to speak the truth about God. He fits within the guidelines of being omnipotent, of being The Creator, and of loving all the world. If you frame his this way, or any other way which is faithful and true, then The Father and The Son will will find no fault in your definition.

Here is when the mystery of God will be revealed:

Revelation 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

It is impossible for the mortal mind to fully define God in all of His glory.

We all have God's divine spark, but we are not privy to the many ways of God.

We are not knowledgeable enough to define the universes.

It is best to follow the path that He has set before us.

One of the greatest challenges for Christians is accepting the fact that we can not comprehend God in all His power and Majesty.
We often wonder why God doesn't appear to be helping us when in reality our defining Him has limited our faith and therefore His actions.

God is undefinable. I hate it when people try to define him. Defining him put limits on him and that's not right. Allow god to be the mystery in your life. The all knowing is something to enjoy.

Depends on what you mean by "defining Him".

We cannot have a concept of God apart from what He has revealed to us.

it's in our very nature to question our life and our surroundings , that includes our spiritual lives as well. God created us in his image , so we have a brain that begs to be used. Trained domesticated animals is what your talking about not people.
