what is the easyest ways to increase the bhp of my 1972 1600 beetle. it has twin webber carb and two twin exhasts. what esle can i easyily do to it.

Throw out that exhaust and get equal length headers. I used a stinger megaphone exhaust right out the middle on the drag strip and a glaspak muffler on the street. Make sure your distributor is correctly times and the springs inside it are correct for your modidications. Bolt on Higher ratio rocker arms can be helpfull. But you know with out splitting the engine cases fly cutting the cyl heads and larger bore cyl jugs and engle high lift camshaft . Other improvements Ported dual port heads you will be limited to about 100 hp.

duel point ignition,circular the head .080" .I had a 73 super bug and hotrod mag had a 3 part hop up for them in 73-74 you might still find infro on line some how. I ran low 19's but was within 2 tenth of a second every run made a lot of people mad at the strip, and made a little money,

John Paul said just about everything you need to know, but I think he will back me up on these items. 1. a liter flywheel 2. solid mount the engine. 3. A turbo 4. This won't give you any more hp,but it will help the engine. Run a cold air duct to number 3 cylinder. #3 cylinder always runs hot and robs you of power. hope this helps

if you have dual weber on it you need, a biger cam and biger head , the motor is way over carbed.re builed it and put 94mm pistions, this will bumb it to a 1915cc. compress the piss out of it. make it a high vompression motor, ang get one of the bigest angel cam you can get. email me if you have any more questions or need some one to build it for you.

change the heads for ones with large intake valves. and change the double exhaust to a single header which combines all four cylinders.

rip the exhaust off and run it straight out of the side of the head, dont worry about noise......! extra hp, no pain no gain brother...lol
