well you know cats are really flexible.
they can jump from tall heights and even though the height they dont get hurt. this is due to their tail and their flexible back.the cat moves the tail in a way in order to fall on her legs
so say that they need it for balance.

The tail is for balance and for finding there way in the dark easier. Some also belive the tails purpose is to show emotion(which i dont buy into)

They use them to balance. For example, one of my cats is part manx so she has no tail and one day she was climbing on a basketball hoop and she nearly fell off because she didn't have a tail to help her balance. However if she goes through the cat flap it doesn't get stuck which is a definite plus...

My big male cat uses his tail to whip my face when he tries to get me to wake up. The queen female uses it as a signal she's gonna bite the heck outa something. Tails are mostly for balance and cat-speaking. Watch for a while and you can tell your cats mood, intentions through tail movements.

The Manx breed of cat doesn't have a tail.
Manx haven't any balance problems. The tail is
a genetic remnant, much like the human coxx
tail bone, without any real purpose.

They use it for balance. If they didnt have a tail, they would fall when they tried to jump.
