you have to give them all paperwork as its all down to how tax is paid etc, why should they worry if you were unemployed before getting a job? you are obviously good enough for them to employ you?
good luck and well done on getting work x

If you don't want them to know you weren't working then you can't possibly give them your P45. The jobs up here are few and far between so I've had the odd gap in my CV.
It can be embarrassing because some people think you've been sitting on your backside for a few months watching Jeremy Kyle but if it's not too big a period of time then just tell them you were unemployed. I have told employers I was caring for my grandmother, that tends to make up for things a bit.
I know you should really be honest but these days sometimes you have to tell a fib just to get by.Good luck with your new job!

just fill in the form P46 BUT the information they recieve back will enable them to realise you have had a job by the amount of tax you have paid so the answer is no they will find out
