it was lit with from beneath and was really cool. but it was $200 and i thought i could find something a little cheaper and less elaborate online, but haven't been able to find it yet. thought i'd ask if anyone knows a site or business that sells these things. thanks

You can definitely get one cheaper....
The catalog Collections, Etc. has one for $14.99, a tabletop model.
Also, I have seen the ones with a stand at the Indiana State Fair for sale for $29.99.

I read a book on desktop fountains and it discussed a smoker you can add to these water features, like underwater lighting.
