The answer is simple--the main source of electricity is burning coal. If you suse less energy, the power company burns less coal. That's true even if you live near a hydroelectric or nuclear powerplant. The different powerplants are all interconnected in the "power grid"--and any reductions in energy use come out of the part produced by coal (you can pretty much count on this--because it's in the power companies financial interest to do it that way.
Here's some tips on how to cut energy use:
>switch to compact flourescent bulbs
>make sure windows and doors have weatherstrippping and that its in good condition
>changing appliances to energy efficient models need not be expensive. The common sense way to do this is to change as old appliances wear out. That means you'll only pay the difference between regular and energy efficient models--a small or zero cost difference.
>same thing with your car(s). If you're like most of us, you can't afford to ust run out and buy a new car. but when it comes time for a new one, pick one that's more fuel efficient.
Note--for most people, these steps can cut energy use by 30-40%--at little cost. And--in the long run every one of these things will actually pay for themselves AND save you moey in reduced gas and utility bills.

Cliamte change is occurring as a result of a build up in the atmosphere of greenhouse gases, these gases trap heat within Earth's atmosphere and act like an insulating layer. The more of these gases there are the warmer the planet becomes.
Various processes give off greenhouse gases as a waste product and the biggest contribution is made by the burning of fossil fuels - coal, oil and gas. Power stations burn huge quantities of fossil fuels to produce electricity (they're burned to produce steam to drive turbines to generate electricity). A reduction in power consumption at home means less fossil fuels are burned at the power stations.
Domestic gas supplies and fuel used in vehicles are other key producers of greenhouse gases, a reduction in their use will also help slow down the effects of climate change.
Reducing your energy is good, not only does it slow down climate change but it preserves resources that in time we'll run out of and it saves money as well.

One way to conserve energy, if you live in a warm climate, is to use reflective roofing material, such as white shingles or better, galvanized metal roofing. Most homeowner associations require dark asphalt shingles, which drive the temperature inside an attic over 130 degrees on a sunny day. The cost to cool my home in summer drives electrical usage up by a factor of three, relative to what it would cost in winter. That means I am using almost three times as much energy, for several months out of the year.

The theory is, when you turn off a light you're using less energy. Which seems true. However, the watts you're not turning out just goes on down the line to the next house that is using them. Fact of the matter is, power plants crank out the same amount of power daily, no matter what your personal use is. And it's at the plant were the real pollution (large scale) comes into play. If you want a cleaner tomorrow, get on the Nuclear Power band wagon.

You know how the exaust from a vehicle is warm and gray when it is released? And when a lightbulb's warmth give off heat when you get too close. These things are changes. and the hotter they burn or release gastly fumes about, the weaker the colderclimates become. The world was once ice. And barely now, it still is to this day, think about it.

I'm not one of the gullible sheeple like a large(and growing)portion of the populous must be.Do you know why I try to keep my energy use low?Because I can't afford the bills. That's why.Yet we have people like Al Gore spouting off their mouths about conserving energy and "carbon footprints".Al Gore has a home that uses more than 30 times the amount of energy than that of the average american home.In one month he uses more energy than the average american home uses in one year!!!Then there's the carbon offset insanity.INSANITY!!!!!Come to find out,the company Al wants you to pay your carbon offsets to,,,,,He sits on the board ,,,,he owns a large portion of the companys stock!!!!!People need to wake up and recognize the farce that is global warming. It's really getting rediculous. And don't get me started on John Edwards.!!!

It’s sparkling international warming/climate replace is real. It’s the two sparkling the > present day < warming cycle has been occurring because of the fact the final ice age and that’s why the Sahara grew to become into grassland 10,000 years in the past yet is wilderness in the present day + has been wilderness for hundreds of years. the actuality the present warming form all started long in the previous there grew to become into any marketplace and while there have been infrequently any people is stable evidence people are no longer the reason. It additionally skill people are no longer the answer. The Earth is going by using consistent climate replace cycles and has carried out so in the time of its historic previous. the best mechanism isn't thoroughly understood yet seems to be relating to image voltaic pastime and the axial tilt of the Earth because it orbits the sunlight - no longer human pastime. be conscious that the Earth is seemingly on the tip of the present warming cycle and could start up cooling quickly (“quickly” in geological words). all the carbon tax/carbon offset BS is merely theft or extortion disguised as technological expertise. worldwide places like China and India enjoyed the belief of carbon taxes/carbon offsets – yet only while they could fake to be “undeveloped”. as quickly because it grew to become into observed the two are awful polluters of > each style < they without caution weren’t so fond of the belief. only the worldwide Left and worldwide places like North Korea & Zimbabwe nonetheless love the belief of carbon taxes. The Left loves the belief because of the fact they are dedicated to destroying the West quite often and the u . s . a . particularly. Getting the stronger international to break its own commercial base is something they want. Having the West concurrently provide loose guilt-funds to worldwide places like North Korea & Zimbabwe could merely make it extra valuable. regrettably, medical examine has been compromised by using the politics of the subject. the academic community leans a a thank you to the Left, so researchers who “tutor” human-led to international warming (AGW) are rewarded with extra provides, yet researchers who don’t “tutor” AGW locate themselves decrease off. The politics of the subject are a topic because of the fact we actually do could desire to renowned the way the Earth works so we are in a position to assume, assume, and regulate. We additionally could desire to chop back truthfully pollutants it is poisoning our ecosystem, and worldwide places like China & India shouldn’t get a loose journey.

I think everybody should reducing energy use in their household, this will help to slow human contributions to climate change.Below got some tips about reducing energy use in household.
Heating and cooling
This is a top home energy user, with the average household producing about four tons of heat-trapping pollution a year. It is heavily influenced by weather. For example, a relatively cold 1996 led to an increase in heat-trapping emissions compared to the previous year. But the next year, a warmer winter helped emissions dip bit. Warmer summers increase greenhouse gas pollution, too, from heavy air conditioning use. Despite the relative warm or coolness of the season, the U.S. emits a harmful amount of global warming pollution.
Even as the weather varies, your choices can help spew less global warming pollution.
* In summer, keep shades drawn to keep the cool in.
* In winter, open shades to let the sunlight to help warm rooms.
* In winter, keep your thermostat cooler at night or when the house is empty.
* Install a programmable thermostat to heat and cool rooms only when necessary.
* Plant trees around your house to cut cooling costs in summer.
* Insulate your walls and ceilings.
* Install a light-colored or reflective roof.
Appliances
After heating, refrigerators and freezers are generally the home's next two big energy eaters. Other appliances follow closely. Together, these items account for nearly eight tons of heat-trapping emissions per household per year.
*Upgrade to Energy Star products. Not all appliances are equal. Whether you're in the market for a new fridge, toaster or air conditioner, look for Energy Star choices, which offer the best energy savings.
* Size counts. When in the market for an appliance, make sure you buy what suits your needs. Items too large or too small waste electricity and your money.
*Unplug. Your electric meter is often adding up kilowatt hours when you don’t think you’re using an appliance. Unplug toasters and cell phone and other chargers when they’re not in use. Don't use air fresheners that have to be plugged in.
*Use power strips. Cable boxes and video game boxes, and to a lesser extent TVs and VCRs, use almost as much energy when they're off as when they're on. Make it easy to turn them all the way off—plug them into a power strip and turn off the whole strip.
Lighting
Lighting accounts for about 21 percent of commercial energy consumption and about 12 percent of home energy consumption. In terms of heat-trapping pollution, that means the lights in the average household produce just over a ton of carbon dioxide each year. Here are a few steps to lower those numbers.
* Use energy-efficient lights. Changing just one 75-watt bulb to a compact fluorescent light cuts roughly 1,300 pounds of global warming pollution. They also last up to 15 times as long and save you money. (Learn how to pick the best bulbs.)
*Turn off lights. A good chunk of lighting expenses is from rooms that stay unnecessarily lit.
*Use natural light. Open shades and use sunlight to help light rooms.
* Install motion-sensors so that lights automatically turn on when someone is in the room and turn off when empty.
Green Energy
Does your electric company sell energy from renewable sources, like wind and solar? More than forty states in the U.S. now offer cleaner energy. Find out more about home energy choices.
Other energy efficient choices for your home
* Use the energy saver cycle on your dishwasher and only run it when full.
* Wash clothes in warm or cold water, not hot.
* Turn down your water heater to 120°Fahrenheit.
* Clean or replace the air filter on your air conditioner.
* Install low-flow shower heads to use less hot water.
* Caulk and weatherstrip around doors and windows.
* Ask your utility company for a free home energy audit.
