THE EU IS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED FOR THE WORKING MAN,BUT NOT FOR THE MONEY MONGERS.YOU CAN DRIVE ALL OVER EUROPE NOW AND TELL THE PRICE DIFFERENCES AT A GLANCE,AND NOT GET RIPPED OFF GETTING SHORT CHANGED ON CURRENCY EXCHANGES.EACH COUNTRY HAS ITS OWN EUROS AND IT,S EASY TO TELL WHICH.DON,T GET BRAINWASHED INTO SAYING NO BY THE BIG MONEY MEN.

Do you mean the financial cost or the political cost? I wouldn't agree that Brown is concerned with the financial cost but there would be serious political consequences of holding a referendum. I agree that the electorate would certainly vote "No" and that would be damaging to the European project and to the Labour government. I think the government is also concerned that many people would not limit themselves to voting on and debating the precise constitutional question of the referendum but the debate would spread to the wider question of Britain's membership of the EU.

yes i think he has this one wrong, its a shame really its the one thing that still connects him to Blair, i was a member of the labour party for 20 years and hoped to go back, i do think brown is a different and a more Honourable person than Blair, i just think he is listening to the wrong people, to say in one sentence yes il listen to the people, and to know in your heart of hearts the people will vote no in this doesn't make any sense, i hope he thinks about this one and comes to the obvious conclusion otherwise i think it will come back to haunt him, he was right on the euro, no doubts there, and well done to him, but your wrong with this one Gordon, and i say that as a fellow Scot
