In reactive inductive circuits the loss due to harmonics can be reduced by the addition of capacitance.
In a reactive capacitive circuit the addition of inductance has the same effect.

i think you are thinking of PF or power factor. power grids are designed to deliver voltage to a resistive load. an unresolved reactance does not consume power, but it reduces the effective voltage to the resistive or power consumptive part of the circuit. The most common offender is motors which becuase of the windings can behave inductively. Resonating this with a capacitor of the proper size can eliminate the PF problem by neutralizing the effect of the inductance.
