The kettle was red hot when he found it a few days ago. He is scared as he lives alone. I live in another country to my dad.

hey the kettle that whistles is the best idea i think. then when he remembers he still gets to use his hot water.

also it might be good to check and see if you can find any part-time helpers. Just someone who will pop round every 2nd day for an hour or so to help out with basic stuff. If he's forgetting the kettle he might also be forgetting other stuff that don't have as obvious or as dangerous signs.

Maybe even a friendly neighbour whose good friends with him. Just someone who you know isn't forgetful to have a look-in, also so you know there is someone he can call when he needs something he can't do on his own, plus the companionship would probably be awesome for him.

When your father forget only the kettle its easy to find a solution .You can give him a timer or a kettle make a sound when the water is boiling
When there is more he forget you can ask the neighbors to go and look at your dad 2times a day if everything is ok .
Is there home caring ? you can ask for this too.
So your father is not all the time alone anymore and you gone feel better .Just take care of ur father

Advise him to get an electric kettle that will switch off automatically when the water has boiled. You can get ones that make a noise too when it's ready which might help to remind him.

This is a fire hazard., the house could have burnt down. Tell you father to wait until the water finishes boiling before he goes on to ther things, if he is forgetful. If he has something more serious with his memory, I would sggest he quit boiling water, or get a caretaker.
