This is confusing so here we go:
27 Jul : Last period
24 Aug : Did test - positive (period due that day)
28 Aug : Went to drs - he said im 5 weeks going on 6 (i think im 4 going on 5)
My due date is May 02 2008, (thats what ive worked out)

When using pregnancy calculater on the internet, enter my due date, it said im 5 weeks, which is what ive worked out, then if i enter the first day of my last period its 6 weeks, what the dr said. Whose right me or the doc!!
So confused!!
Thanks in advance, sorry this is confusing!

Pregnancy is calculated at 40wks from the FIRST day of your last period even though the first 2weeks you aren't technically pregnant. On the day your period was due you would've been 4 weeks pregnant (approx 2weeks since conception) and then you keep counting from there. So what the doctor said was right, don't count from conception or anything else. Only count from first day of your last menstrual period (LMP)!
If you count from any other date you'll stuff your dates around and baby could possbibly be born overdue, pre-term etc.. and you don't want that.
The other way is to wait until you have an ultrasound and as long as it is in the first 12weeks it will be pretty acurate as to what your due date is and how far along you are. (past 12wks and baby measurements can give a false reading and therefore false due date)

Good luck and congratulations.

Congratulations on your good news. You can never get an exact answer as no-one can be sure when they ovulated. To work out how many weeks you are, you just go from the first day of your last period so you are 5 weeks and 2 days. Your due date (just add 9 months and one week) will be around 4th March.

Good luck xx

That would actually depend more on when you ovulated. Once you have an early ultrsound, it will be very accurate in determining a due date. But since your periods look like were ABOUT average length then using your LMP will be close within a few days at least. The doctor at this poinmt, unless they did an ultrasound will be basing it on teh size of your uterus.

Well I get a due date of May 4th on my pregnancy wheel and it says you are in your 6th week. Really this is just a small difference, I would be going by you are 6 weeks. Some internet things may be off depending on what rule they use to calculate EDD. It isn't an exact science, there can be some leeway. In the end the baby comes when it is ready anways and doesn't follow the due dates.

Congrats to you!

hi congratulations
it is not an exact science, you could be 5 weeks and 4 days or so. when you get your first scan then they will be able to date you a lot more accurately. the doctor will not know on what particular day you conceived only that it will have happened between certain dates so an average is taken. wait for your scan and then you will know better, unless of course you can remember on what day you had intercourse, if it was only once!

it all depends on when you ovulated, you go from the day that you came on your last period, so when you dont come on and you find out your pregnant you would be 4 wks that day, i wouldnt worry too much though because its common for the doctors dates and scan dates to be out by 7 days or so, thats what they told me, im 27 wks going on 28 and yet the hospital have me a wk further on which is impossible because thats a wk before my last period, so dont worry and just enjoy being pregnant. good luck

I STILL dont understand why the doctors are saying I am due on 5th nov, we worked out that I would be due 28th oct going by my LMP and when I ovulated but I have given up the fight now lol I would say go by what your doctor is saying.

good luck
