At the end of WW2 it was realized that to bring to Justice all the people involved in the Nazi Regime would mean bringing to court all the members of the party upper echelon, all the Judges, Top SS and Military, Police, Gauliters,Top Civil servants etc etc.. that the US would more or less have to ship in hundreds of thousands of people to run the country while the prosecutions took place.

To save time and effort it was further decided to make an example of the major players and anybody who there was enough evidence against, Concentration Camp Commandant's and major War Criminals.

Some managed to escape to countries with Nazi sympathys like Argentinia in S. America.

Others escaped their rightful place in the courts and on the gallows because of the scientific knowledge that they had like Von Braun a member of the S.S. but badly needed by the USA for his rocket knowledge.

Even today evidence is emerging of the many businesses that were founded out of stolen Jewish property and funds, Banks who were founded on Jewish wealth and factories who employed mass slave labor from concentration camps and deportees from France, Belgium and the East.

Germany is still paying out war reparations to survivors of the camps and rightly so.

You have to remember not all Nazis wanted to be Nazis. Some were good God fearing people. They just rather live then be killed off. As far as punishment that was for their leaders. And to answer you NO not all were punished. Some went on the run and are still on the run.

Some number escaped. But keep in mind that not all of them are horrible people. A good number of them just needed a job and security for their families. There were definetly a lot who just wanted to eradicate jews.
