Mmm...it could be a case of a prankster...or the beginnings f a lucid dream where you are half asleep and awake, and can hear sounds in that state...lastly, when it gets really quiet at night, our ears would be able to easily pick up more noise frequencies so it might very well be footsteps of people nearby or outside etc. If it still continues, check with room/housemates if they they also experience it, just to be sure..yah?
