It would be much more accurate to say: "Men have fought wars in the name of religion". The fact that these wars were fought is not necessarily an accurate reflection of the teachings of these religions.

Moreover, religion is responsible for much good, as well. Hospitals, universities, agriculture, science, the fine arts, civil law, and charitable giving all made enormous strides under the influence of the Catholic Church.

Even if there were no religion, someone would find an excuse to start a war.

Religion does not cause war. Ignorance of an others Religion causes war. I have not read of even one Religion that supports war, except when people try and use it out of context. There are fanatics that choose to distort Religion to try and force their personal views onto people, this causes wars. The ignorance of an others Religion also causes wars. Instead of seeing how many differences we have- let's see how much in common we have. God bless.

Religion is a cause of war, not the only cause of war. Racism, greed, envy, an accidently spilled glass of wine (the 100 years war got started that way). You can't abolish religion, the best you can hope for is that more people adopt a "live and let live" attitude.

This statement annoys me, people start wars, sometimes in the name of religion and often people use religion as justification to push their own agenda. People fight over a lot of things, race, power, money, land, oil etc. I think people are good enough at killing eachother and don't need religion to help them.

Wars are started by MAN in the name of religion; religion per se does not start wars.

Since man created religion, this statement holds true however you look at it!
