Milk aids your recovery, and something in the milk alters the way that your muscles recover so it is more efficient and that is why it helps you bulk up faster, also as it contains protein that will help with the muscles. With regards to running milk will aid muscle recover, and studies have indicated that chocolate milk is a better than many recover drinks for post race recovery; with the milk aiding the muscles and the choclate syrup replenishing energy.

There are those that say that a glass of chocolate milk after a run can't be beat. I know many collegiate Division I athletes that drink a glass after every run. It not only gives you calcium to strengthen your bones after a hard run, but it can in a way help you recover. For some people though, a glass of milk after a hot run isn't the best thing for their stomach...and you are not really missing out if you stick to water or gatorade. But if you find that you have some milk handy after a run, add some Hershey's Syrup and try it. Personally, I find it upsets my stomach to drink it immediately after a run, so I stick to water and about 30-45 minutes later I may have a glass of milk.

Carbohydrates give you energy and protein helps build muscles and bones. I don't think the milk is going to do anything special for you.
Eat protein within 30 minutes of a hard work out.
