Australia is great. Occasionally I get annoyed with the country and the way it is going but then I consider what it would be like to live anywhere else. Australia on a bad day is still better.

I live in Europe and travel to Australia on business monthly. I find Australia to be beautiful with great weather (mostly), and the people very friendly. The main cities are cosmopolitan, and the countryside is interesting and has varied types of beauty. I think it's a great place. You have a very special situation down there.
On the business side of things, I find people to be a bit slower to the rest of the world. Their generally laid back and easy going attitude carries over into business, and it's sometimes difficult to get people to act quickly to problems or even recognize there is a problem. Work hours are shorter and people seem more focused on getting out on time then finishing work properly.
Overall, I love Australia and I love it's friendly and happy people. Have thought many times to move there. I remain jealous of the fantastic lifestyle that is possible there.

Douglas Adams (author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) loved Australia. There was an old iron bridge near where he lived stating that anyone who vandalised or damaged the bridge would be liable for deportation to Australia. He said that it was a surprise that the bridge was still standing!
Later, he visited Brisbane, and was amused to learn that it was originally settled by the convicts who were sent to Sydney, and then played up and were sent to Brisbane. He didn't think that it would be much of a form of punishment.

Work times are absolutely NOT shorter in Australia! In fact there has just been a survey done to say that many workers have to do unpaid overtime just to get their large work load completed. It is becoming a serious problem!
BUT apart from that, it is a fantastic country.

I live here and have four married children and a wife for 45 years. Its just so great we have things in place so that no one has to be without food clothing or something to do . If hard times happen whole communities will drop everything to help you. We are extremely lucky.~~

I like the fact that Australians are very sexy on the beach, because they love the beach.
