If you think that your passport is suspended for a good reason or which would be a reason for your country not to let you travel, (like a conviction or a big dept or not paying for child support,) best check with the court dealing with that kind of case.
You can risk it, just buy a ticket, and go to the airport, but nowadays they almost always check the passport numbers in a computer, and if it flags yours you will be embarrassed at least, loose a lot of money by not being able to use your ticket and may face jail if you are trying to leave the country when a court told you not to do that.
If there are no reasons to suspect your passport to be suspended, the date on it will tell you when it expires. Till that date you can use it to return to the USA, if other countries may ask you to have more time left on it when visiting them.
