I went AWOL from OSUT at Ft. Benning, GA. Decided I had made my decision to join the Army a little to hastily and decided to get away before I got attached enough to everything that I wouldn't want to leave. I've learned alot after going AWOL, from the experience of it, thinking about what I want to do and some other major life changing things in my life. Does anyone know about rejoining in my situation? Appreciate any feedback. I'm gonna go talk to a recruiter about it on monday too anyways.

Ok, questions. Did you return and get discharged? Was it an administrative separation? A general discharge? an OTH discharge, or a bad conduct discharge, for just AWOL they wouldn't give you dishonorable, but that would be hard to clean up. Anything but Bad conduct or OTH your recruiter can take care of with waivers. If it was one of those you actually have to go before the Senate to plea for an upgrade in your discharge so you can be rehired. Its a pain. I only know that cause my buddy is trying to do the same thing with his OTH. But he was a dangerous screwup. You were just a confused kid, they see those all the time. I bet they will take you back. Talk to the recruiter and he'll help you sort things out.

You went AWOL and the you processed out yea I am sure that you learned quite a bit and so did Pee Wee Herman in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Look dude do your self and the Army a favor don't go back it was pretty obvious that the Army or the military is not for you. I know if I was the recruiter I would get a good laugh from you coming to ask that one. Oh yea they will welcome you with open arms and BIG parade the kind with marching bands wow get ready to ride the float and wave like Miss America!

Basically come back in 2016, if you chance your arm at another office they will find out as all applications are linked on a database these days. No it isn't really up to the 'guy' in the office, those are guidelines that are laid down to him by HQ Recruiting Group, he is merely following him. However you are allowed to enlist with no more than two unspent convictions, provided you have no other convictions and this was the sole thing you were charged for then you should have met the eligibility criteria.

talking to the recruiter will be your best help. He will have alot of insight on all the situations that have occurred and he will be best to advise you on whether this is the right thing for you even now.

I do know, from reading in various books and such that if you do manage to get to the stage that you want to rejoin, you will have to make a serious plea of your case to the Army, and they will have to accept it. You probably won't get any bonuses, rank advancements (for awhile), etc. and will be under constant scrutiny until you prove yourself worthy again.

I hope that this all works out for you. Sometimes as a young person you make mistakes but at least you see that you want to do the right thing now and have grown as a person through your experiences.

You will have to pay for what you did by going AWOL first. The army may even give you a dishonorable discharge if this happened a long time ago, and you are just turning yourself in.
