A friend's roommate spends all of her time at her lover's place and is literally never home. I am the only person who gives her neglected cat any attention and the cat runs to me every time I arrive and stays by me during my entire visit. I have really grown to love her and everybody calls her my cat now. I've had cats before and have never liked one as much as this one. Her owner has decided to give her away. My apartment building's owner said I can't have her, but the apartment manager likes me and wants me to have her. She said she would turn a blind eye but would have to play dumb if the building owner finds out. I can't afford to move and I'm afraid of getting evicted. I hope to move within the next year, but I don't know if I'll be able to for sure. I can't stand the thought of giving this cat away to a stranger. What should I do?

That's really tricky for you, but I really wouldn't take the cat unless you get your building owner's permission. Cats live up to 20 years, and if/when they find out you have the cat they will just make you give her up anyway, and you would be even more attached to her then. There may even be a clause in your contract that could mean you get penalised for pet ownership? I feel for you, I had to wait for ages to be able to afford my own place and get cats (until then I had a hamster as a substitute).
I'm really sorry, but the sad truth is unless you can move, get a friend to keep the cat for you or get the owner's permission, then you are not allowed to keep cats where you live. The manager has already said that she will not stand up for you if you were found out. Is there not a slight chance that you could talk to the owner again and try to change the owners mind? I hope you find a solution.

Hi there, this is a tricky one. Firstly well done for taking care of this poor wee thing, who has been neglected by some idiot who should never be allowed another cat.
If you can be sure that you wont be found out then take her, but don't put yourself at risk of losing your home. Can't you have a say as to where this cat goes? Then at least you would be more settled knowing that she/he has gone to the right owner. There are a lot of loving homes out there, it is just a matter of finding the right one. If you love cats and can't have one at home, have you ever thought of helping out at a cat rescue or with cat protection? Be very aware though that you can't take them home with you, as it is very easy to fall in love with these poor babies who have been dumped for whatever reason.
I hope this has helped

Take the cat. Make sure she doesn't destroy anything in the house, and keep her a secret. The owner cannot get into your house if you don't let him, I am sure you can hide the cat. Plus, you have to check the law. In my country, you are allowed up to 2 pets in every appartment, no matter what the owner thinks. As for getting evicted, it is a small risk, well, the cat is for a lifetime, teh appartment is one in many appartments you can rent.

There's always somebody who will rat you out & you'll
end up getting evicted. So while your heart is in the
right place it's best to pass on taking the cat home. Do
you have a friend who is able to have a cat where they
live? Your friend could take the cat in & hold it until
your able to move & take the cat in yourself.

Personally, I would take the cat. At the very forefront of all my concerns would be whether or not I could absolutely GUARANTEE to the cat that I would be able to keep it for the rest of it's life. It is far less stressful for you to have to move home, than for a cat to have to find a brand new family.
Cheers,
H

I'd take the cat, then sleep with the cats owner. She'd loose her B/f and cat.. Serves her right for neglecting the poor moggie.

I would encourage you to take the cat home if you have the time for it, and the money to provide for it. e.g. Food, Vet Bills, Supplies, Grooming products and such.. The next thing is, do you love it and want to keep it for the rest of its life? If so, I encourage you. If not, I discourage you.

Simply put - take the cat home and love her like you already do. Be prepared to lose you security deposit if the owner finds out.

cats arent that hard to hide, so if you love the kitty that much you should take her, be very careful and begin your hunt for your next apartment.
