Atheists pretty much have to, since presidential candidates are almost always Christians. But what about Christians, would you vote for a president if you agreed with all of his policies, but he was not a Christian?

My apologies, I of course meant to say "he or she."

Since our country is founded on the principle of separating church and state, I do not see a candidates religious beliefs as an issue. Unfortunately, as Bush has proven, some candidates are just to stupid to know how to set aside there religious convictions and do what is best for the country.

I would like to point out that even candidates that do not practice a religion will claim that they are Christians in order to ensure a chance to be voted by Christians.

They will claim that they are part of a majority to gain social favor. That's just politics for ya.

You're right about having no choice at the moment, and even if I did, I would vote for someone who has policies I can agree on.

In Oz we don't get to vote for the boss; we get to vote for party (or non-party) representatives then the party either wins or loses government and they each have a leader and the party who gets the most representatives, etc, etc.

Anyway, I'm more likely to vote for an atheist than a god-botherer.
I dislike the thought of my representative talking to 'god' through the hair-dryer each morning to see if he needs to declare war on some part of the undeveloped world.

I'D prefere a non Christian President as that would leave my way clear in a WAR to kill as many of my enemies as i could
and have a clear conscience !Truthfully I am not a religious person and i don't care less about the Christian people as
all they do is gripe about others who won't read or follow their stupid fairytale book! THE BIBLE,big deal! It wasn't Christ who wrote it it was about a dozen scribes that did it for him ,all he did was dictated what was to go into it ?
And you people who call yourselves True Christians are
nothing short of dictators--Adolf Hitler was one -- Idi Armin
was another, and they bled their country dry,so what will you do to your's ?

Are you voting for a president or a Padre?By the way, there are still many capable people left amongst Christians who shall make a good president.

I don't vote to begin with. Its all a shame, your vote doesn't mean squat and is never truly counted.

edit: sad so few actually REALIZE how the voting system works. read a book people, your vote means nothing. an electoral college does the voting. your vote is just to show them what the masses want, not what is actually cast.

sad people have become this ignorant (lack of facts) to the very basics of life. I am sure few could even recite one sentence from the Constitution but I bet they can name on those on Friends or any other TV show. Sad, sad, sad.

Hi RB,

Great to see you Asking Qns again. :-)

For me (s)he would have to have a tangibly good / ehical / upright character.

For there to be places (s)he wouldn't go 'out of principle'.

With great power comes great responsibility: it has to be used, dispensed Wisely.

The particular set of principles one subscribes to, need not perhaps be as important as the fact that they Are subscribed to.

The practice & genuineness of character here, being more important than the rhetoric.

For me, Hilary has these qualities.

Let us see / hope & pray... :-)

All presidents claim to be Christian. In reality very few are. I highly doubt an organization like Skull and Bones hold true Christian values.
