I have these large lumps at the back of my tongue and I know most people usually have lumps at the back called circumvallet papillae (and these lumps are about where the papillae should be, but these definately have only appeared in the last few days are kind of whitish - i have also started feeling sick (sore throat, runny nose, tired etc) are these just circumvallet papillae or could they be something to worry about?

Sounds like an infection, possibly strep throat (that can cause lots of glands in the throat/mouth to swell).
I would have a check-up with your doctor. He/she can take a swab and find out if you require some medicine.
Good luck and I hope you feel better!

on each occasion I even have an exceedingly undesirable sore throat, I constantly see those white spots. They circulate away as quickly as my throat soreness gets greater beneficial. What I do is I placed some teaspoons of salt right into a tumbler of lukewarm water and combine it, then gurgle it until this is finished. this could help disinfect. desire it gets greater beneficial, do not hassle too plenty and verify you circulate to the surgeon for the lump!

They could even be thrush, and you can eat yoghurt to see if it makes them go away.
