Quote:
"Today, in an America filled with adulterers and baby-killers, an even worse sinner casts a shadow over them all—the atheist. Yet atheists are difficult to spot. They hide their sinister cult behind masks of smiles, science and soft, pleasant voices. Your next door neighbor might be an atheist. You just can’t tell".

"Imagine if it was simple to identify atheists and their tainted works. Would it not be grand? Think how much easier it would be to protect your children’s eyes, ears and souls from atheists’ influences if their websites, books, movies and yes, even their very clothes, were clearly labeled with a bright scarlet “A”.

When I read this I was taken aback, and back, to Nazi Germany when Jews were labeled so they could be identified and spat on.
If ever there was any doubt about the deep hatred so-called Christians harbor against non-believers check this site out:

LOL! This site is priceless! Really, look into it further, it's run by comedians (check out member websites) who are poking fun (and truth!) at conservatives and fundies. I wish I'd written half this stuff myself. Sam Brownback is the Presidential hopeful from Kansas who wants intelligent design taught in public schools, the dissolution of same-sex marriages and civil unions; more troops in Iraq - in other words, Brownback is a fundie nutjob. Just read further. The site is a parody of what a Brownback website might say. The quote above was written by one of the comedians who are aware that people like Brownback actually think these things but don't say them all aloud for fear of losing votes.

This is, unfortunately, what much of conservative fundie America would like to see happen to us atheists. It's a hoax but one that actually points out the way many fundamentalists think. Some of these people (Brownback included, I'm sure) would love to reinstitute slavery and stone disobeying children. We see some here on R&S daily. Every religion, at least Abrahamic, has some insane members and this is Christianity's.

You must check out some of the other stuff on there and then it will become clearer to you that this website is all done in jest, and in a truly noteworthy fashion - at the heart of the humor is a reality faced by atheists, homosexuals, etc. each and every day.

I guess you do not pay much attention. Sure some of the people here who claim to be atheists are really just anti-theists who probably do still harbor a hatred for a non existent being. However there are many atheists here who do not constantly talk about your God. You will find though that the Christian God is spoken of more than most. The simple and easy explanation for that is the fact that most of the people on Y/A live in the Western World where Christianity holds sway. Thus it is only natural.

Oh, man I just love the interpretation of "The Scarlet Letter" lemme quote,
"God’s fitting and inevitable punishment in the form of a baby, which she must bear, since the murder of womb-babies was illegal at the time. " HUH? LOL
Anyway, that letter A on that site has been accepted by atheists. It's called the OUT Campaign, go to RichardDawkins.net. I bought several of the shirts, in green, white, and grey. The shirts all have a giant red A on them, and RichardDawkins.net is underneath the A's. Then on the sleave are the wordsSTANDOUT Campaign.

Fundie propaganda at it's worst (or at least the worst that I've seen recently), with more than a liberal dash of hypocrasy just to sh!t up the piece.

The writer clearly has no idea of the underlying theme of The Scarlet Letter; namely Hawthorne's disdain for Puritanical rule, and the problems that it's wrought on society.

I don't know whether to be saddened or sickened by this person's post, but it is a shining example of why, rational thinking people of all faiths (and none at all) need to see that faith and gov't mixing is disasterous.

EDIT: As disturbing as the site is, I did a little surfing through it. I, honestly, have no idea if it's a legitimate fundy site, or if it's a very elaborate and well done hoax. Some of the things posted strike me as too absurd to be real (calling rape a U.S.E...unplanned sexual event...since the word rape is distasteful).

EDIT PART DUEX: Apparently we got suckered...the site appears to be a hoax. http://scienceblogs.com/bushwells/2007/08/can_it_really_be_sunday_mornin.php

It's not hatred ! its because they know what they are talking about and the CHRISTians "Think" that they know, someone
put your bible in its right place,as it being a story book with many pages and stories, some of death, rape, sodomy, taking of property, and others women, and the biggy Homosexuality.
Christianity is a "CULT" and i would rather put my trust in an Athiest more so than a bible bashing Christian who believes in some one or thing that no man on this Earth has
ever seen,if you don't like the truth that the Athiests know
to be rightful then stop telling every one out there a pack of lies.

This question shows BLINDING ignorance, and that it equates Judaism with Atheism shows that. Jews DO believe in a supreme being...uh, by the way, the ones the Christians got their idea from!

Furthermore, saying that Atheists are "adulterers and baby-killers" is just insane! This nutcase will get no more of MY time! Go back to school (btw, can you even READ????!)

Wow. He believes in witches. And not just any witches, but the Salem witches.

"...while his great-great grandfather was a judge who faced the horrors of those notorious witches of Salem."

He also completely missed the point of The Scarlet Letter, which is taught in just about every high school in America.

If that isn't satire, somebody needs to put that monkey in a cage. Worse than a Nazi, he's a ******* idiot.

Atheists are much the same as christians except for the god thing. This of course means (by that quote) that christians are also sinister, tainted and so forth. Didn't the idiot who wrote that garbage have even the tiniest bit of sense?

The brainless moron doesn't even realise that he says that everyone would have the "A" sewn into their clothes (all are sinners by his doctrine).

That's not an article; it is a rant.

wow, did you read the comments of mrs GC? Just as bad.
It didn't take me back to Nazi Germany, but it sure made me think of that passage in Revelation about marking everyone. Maybe the madness will soon start.

why does this sound like it was written in the 1700's? I'm a little skeptical of this. Also, I don't know a single Christian who "harbors a deep hatred" against Atheists.
