you don't ask her out for fear of "ruining the friendship".

Now, am I to believe the book "He's just not that into you" which says it's a lousy excuse that boils down to "You're not physically attractive to me" or is he really "afraid to ruin the friendship"?

(By his own admission, he thinks I'd be sexy if I lost a couple of pounds... in any male opinion, would that change the way he reacts to me or what?)

Thanks for any help anyone can come up with!!

Maybe what he said was true. If that's the case, move on.

You are alright to kick it with, but the excess pounds (in his mind) doesn't put you high enough in the rating points to be his gf. trust me, that is the way he is thinking. He might seem like a good friend, but he definitely is shallow (he thinks you would be sexy if you......cmon). You can probably stay friends with him, but you need to cease the flirting back. Find a love worthy of you. Tread lightly around this friendship because it might not be as strong as you think. Don't let him play you like that. Again, STOP THE FLIRTING BACK!! God bless! Hope this helps.

How long have you guys known each other? If it has been for more than several years, he might be serious about the friendship thing. Not everyone can go back to just being friends, and he may not wanna lose that if you are not "the one." Take him at his word until he gives you a reason not to.

Lots of guys don't want to ruin a girl friendship...most guys have so few girls who are just friends.

And yes weight has a huge effect on how much most guys likes a girl...the less pounds the more they like.

Never start a relationship with someone that thinks they need to change you so that you are more attractive to them. That will only continue. You need someone that accepts you the way that you are. You'd be giving him the worst kind of power over you if you accept him telling what needs to be different about you in order for him to 'like' you better. You deserve more than that, believe it.
