You can't wear contact lenses in a war zone. You also cannot wear them in bootcamp. Actually, you can't wear them in a field environment at all. You have to wear glasses. This is the reason: if you sustain a chemical attack, the lenses would fuse to your eyes. And you have the potential to sustain a chemical attack in either of those environments.

You can wear contacts when you become a Marine but during boot camp you have to wear the birth control glasses. My husband didn't wear contacts in Iraq and I don't suggest it either. With all the dust and not being able to clean them as much as needed. You risk getting an ulcer in your eye and or worse damage. Wear them at work and while you are at regular work, but not while training in the field or in Iraq i don't recommend it.
Good luck

The answer awood gave is exactly correct on why you dont wear contacts in a war zone. many chemicle attack as well as the heat from explosions can cause the contact to fuse to the eye and cause blindness.

Alot of my comrades wore glasses in the Army. We were Pathfinder soldiers! We were made up of Rangers,Special Forces, Infantry, Scouts, and the like. I really don't feel that it will be an issue. Rangers Lead The Way!!!!!!!!! HUAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you're not allowed to wear contacts while in boot camp because of chemical weapons training, the time it takes to take them out, clean them, store then, put them back in.. takes precious time away from what you're supposed to be doing. that's why they have BCG's (as previously mentioned.. birth control glasses).
after you get out of bootcamp, you can wear any form of vision correction items you want... glasses or contacts. it's not really recommended you use contacts in iraq because of all the dirt and dust out there but the choice is truly yours once you've graduated boot camp.

yes you can join if you wear contacts but you will have to trade them in for a pair of G.I. issue glasses that are better known as BC(birth control)glasses that will insure you will never get laid. Semper Fidelus

You have to wear glasses while in training. You can wear them after your training is completed, and while you are stationed in the U.S. or in any non combat area.
