if you really believed in God, you wouldn't need to, right?

I think it's the other way around,
Only if you believe in God you pray.
I need to talk to my closest Friend* and tell Him how much He is to me, and ask Him for things.
...Don't you do that with your closest friend?

Prayer to me is more like having a conversation with a higher being. The only things to be asked for at prayer are forgiveness and guidance.

And when I pray it's not always to talk to god. A lot of times I'm just checking in with loved ones who have passed away. Maybe it's hard to grasp such a idea, but it brings me comfort.

Isn't that all that matters friend?

I used to pray, but when none of my prayers came true I stopped and it wasn't like i was praying for stupid things like to win the lottery or anything i was praying for improtant stuff like my for my health. When nothing changed I stopped believing in god altogether. I guess most people pray when they want things. They think that god will help them if they just ask for it. People who beleive in god are just scared and lonely. They desperately want to believe that some kind of a high power will help them when they need it and be there for them when they're down. They are scared of death so they like to think that something out there will be there for them once they die.

That is not true. Praying is a way for us to let God know that we still believe in Him and that we need His help in our life. It is just like calling your friends on the phone to say hi. You and your friends both know you guys are friends.. so why do you call and talk? Because it is a way for 2 people to tell each other that they care about each other and they need each others support. Same way, God created us to service Him and by praying and worshiping Him, we are telling Him that we acknowledge His presence and that we need Him in all walks of our life.

When we pray, we communicate with God, who is our true happiness. Without it, we can't be trully happy. We may experience superficial and temporary happiness without prayer. But the happiness that prayer brings is nothing compared to anything else. But we must always remember that our prayers should not be based on how we feel. We may not feel good when pray, but we can still be joyful. True Christians are joyful just by the thought of talking with God, and they don't have to feel good about it.

If you are without a doubt a believer, then no, you shouldn't need to pray. you'll get a lot of answers saying yes, prostrate yourself on the ground and cry out to the heavens with your eternal love and servitude. if you believe, that should be good enough. we are in a more or less modern society now were everybody can read (if you can't, you have problems unless there is a valid reason for your failure to be literate) so you honestly don't need a reason to go to church. if you believe in god, know his philosophy, and have a bible with you, then your well on your way to the stairway to heaven. unlike me, who just happens to be crusing on the highway to hell. To have prayers answered, and to give thanks. God said if you ask you shall recieve. Praying is the communication source between man and God. We can always talk to God, but praying is the act or practice of making spoken or unspoken communication with God. or an earnest request for something that is important to you. So pray that you may be answered..

For Christians, it is a sign of respect for what Jesus Christ did for them. He offered his life for their salvation, so that they can find a way to save themselves from sin. I think it good to pray, although I do not believe in God. I pray to the Creator but not to God, since God is only man-made.

you pray to have a conversation with God. Praying doesn't necessarily mean, dropping to your knees and crying out, "Oh Lord!!!". Praying is just whenever you talk to God. It's maintaining the relationship. It's like if you said, "this person is already my friend, why do I still need to talk to them?".

That's funny, our pastor was just talking about this in church today! Well, praying is one way of communicating with God. It's true that He does already know what's on our minds, but we have to pray to keep our relationship with Him strong!
