When you feel the need to urinate, you should respond without waiting a long time. Postponing urination can lead to a UTI ( urinary tract infections) . Other problems could be cystitis or infection of the bladder.
URINARY TRACT INFECTION (UTI): A UTI is a urinary tract infection caused by bacteria in the urinary tract. A UTI can start in any of the parts of the urinary tract, from the kidneys to the meatus (i.e., the opening from which urine flows out of the body). A UTI can be simple or complicated; depending on what area(s) the bacteria invade.
PREVENTION: A UTI is not always avoidable, but using the following tips could help decrease your risk of getting one:
Wash your genital area daily with mild soap. Make sure to rinse and dry thoroughly.
Keep hydrated. Drink at least eight, 8-ounce glasses of caffeine-free beverages daily.
Excess alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods can irritate the urinary tract in some people. It may help to avoid or cut down on these products.
When you feel the need to urinate, you should respond without waiting a long time. Postponing urination can lead to a UTI.
Urinate before and after intercourse.
Drink a glass of water before sexual intercourse, and urinate within 15 minutes after intercourse.
· Use a water-soluble lubricant such as K-Y lubricating jelly, during intercourse.
· Use female-superior or lateral positions in sexual intercourse to protect the female urethra from injury.
For the women:
When you urinate, wipe from front to back. This helps decrease the transmission of bacteria from the anus and vagina to the urethra.
Clean the anal area thoroughly after bowel movements. Wipe from the front to the rear rather than from the rear to the front to avoid spreading fecal bacteria to the genital area
Do not use douches, strong or scented soaps, bubble bath, or feminine deodorant sprays.
Shower instead of taking a bath. Warm bath water can relax protective barriers and encourage bacteria to travel into the urinary tract.
Use underwear and nylons that have cotton crotches
Avoid the use of catheters, if possible.
·
Obtain prompt medical treatment for urinary-tract infections. Inadequate treatment can lead to chronic UTI and may lead to kidney failure.
Postponing urination can also lead to cystitis or inflammation and infection of the urinary bladder in women.
Postponing urination- the discharge of urine; long after the call of nature says it's time to go--discreetly called "habitual forced urine retention' by scientists--could be bad for your health, according to a report from Israel in the March JOURNAL OF THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE.
Several studies have shown that urban men have a higher incidence of bladder cancer than rural men. This observation, coupled with other studies suggesting a role for urinary cancer-causing agents in contact with the bladder, led to the Israeli study of drinking, urination habits and urine concentration in various populations of workers.

You could because the kidneys are "overdue" for emptying. If you can, I would buy a potty chair for emergencies. Then, no matter what, you won't be in that dilemna ever again. I have had that happen to me. What I did was buy a house with two bathrooms, this, of course, filled my need. Remember this, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace and God Bless.

You can't get a disease persay, but you can develop urinary tract and kidney infections if done on a continual basis.
Holding it every once and again won't hurt you. ;)
