Matthew 10:28-31
"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

I read this verse as God saying that HE determines the time of our death. If we live for Him, we have nothing to fear... not heart disease, not bullets... nothing can take us until God allows it. What do you make of this and how does it make you feel?

I don't think you interpret it correctly.

What Christ is telling us - i believe - is that we should not fear death no matter how it comes. Our soul is what matters. I believe that God is the one that can condemn us to hell - so we are to fear him.

It's true that we don't have to fear heart disease, bullets, etc - but that doesn't mean that we are protected from them as Christians - only our soul is guaranteed through Christ.

I do believe that however it also says to treat your body like the temple of God. Not to be a glutton so on and so on. So if your not following all of His commandments then you are taking the chance to hurt you body but I still believe your not going anywhere until God wills it. I believe your very days are numbered before you are actually born but in 2 Kings 20 God allowed Saul's life to be extended because he lived for God and ask God to let him live longer. So God can change His mind too.....

I believe that God does determine when and how we will die. Some may feel that this could be malevolent, but I view it as it's His choice on how we go, and He will always have a reason that fits in His master plan. Above all, God is loving caring, so there's not a whole lot to worry about.

Why would I be afraid of a nonexistent boogeyman named Satan, because he might destroy my soul, which also doesn't exist? And what kind of 'wisdom' informs me I am worth more than many sparrows? I knew that prior to reading this verse from your fairy tale.

And actually, I would think two sparrows would be worth far more than a penny today. Did they even have pennies when this fairy tale was written?

When the righteous dies, people think that he is punished, but he is taken from evil. No one can know what the future will bring. We need to fear to lose our faith. In this case we can not inherit the kingdom of God. It is the worst thing that can happen to us. God knows the hearts and if believer keeps the faith in Him even in his heart only, because of fear of danger, God will not believe his persecutors. People can force others under torture or threats to talk not what they think, but they can not deceive God.

You can Blow-It.

If you Walk Close to GOD, then you Two can Decide when you should go to Heaven (Home).

If you rebel (I AM not talking about sinning every now and then, so on, I AM Talking about just going Opposite to GOD as a Child of GOD and not Listening to HIM at All.
You will go Home to Heaven Early if you Act like That!!!

Let's just say for a minute that this is true. I fail to see how it relieves you from fear because you still don't know when you will die, and you can't predict when 'god' will 'allow' you to die. There's nothing there that releases you from fear of death.

Also, there is nothing in that verse that says 'living for him' will make any difference to the time of your death.

All you can legitimately understand from this verse is that 'god' knows you very well (which doesn't appear to be relevant) and that 'god' knows when you will die. The rest of your extrapolations are unreasonable.

If God values that things that we place very little value in, all the more he values us. Good Word brother. The awesome thing about reading the Word is that God can speak to you in new ways every time, growing you deeper.

Though i knew this...

I feel secure! That I'm in God's Will! That if i were to die it is because God said it was time not because the doctors said it was!

There are many times that doctors say your going to die tomorrow and you died the next week or didn't die at all!

It is great that god controls my destiny!

Well, i see it as saying, don't be afriad of the worldy dangers because God is taking care of you. Fear the devil who can destroy your body and your soul. God will keep your soul safe if you follow him.
