If you have to make the choice, chew. But actually chew, not dip snuff. Redman or Levi Garrett are the most common available. Smoking is slightly more harmful since you are inhaling carbonmonoxide and chemicals straight into your lungs.

Of course the best idea is to avoid tobbacco products totally, or limit them to an occasional use. But if you are going to use constantly, be a man and chew it up, don't be a dippity do or go polluting everyone elses air.

I read a Reader's Digest article about a young fellow named Sean Marsee who had oral cancer from having done chewing tobacco. My mom's father had oral cancer from having smoked a pipe. He passed away when Mom was ten years old. Along the way, half his tongue was removed. Both stories, if it were possible to get further details, would get really gross and disgusting.

Mom passed away last March 29th of squamous-cell lung cancer, pneumonia and peripheral arterial disease. The American Cancer Society phone representative said that squamous-cell lung cancer was a "smoker's cancer." Mom's doctors at Kaiser didn't seem to blame the squamous-cell lung cancer on Mom's having smoked from 1955 (guess) to 1983 (when Dad had his heart attack). Kaiser definitely blamed the peripheral arterial disease (PAD) on the smoking, and the PAD is why they advised us to remove the breathing tube and let her go (she was in the hospital for pneumonia).

Peripheral arterial disease is failure of the arteries in the extremities (arms/hands, legs/feet). In Mom's case, it went straight to the advanced form (total failure with gangrene on the horizon). If Mom had been in better overall shape, then the treatment for PAD at that stage would have been amputation of the limb up to the place where the leg was no longer purpley-blue and cold. They said they did not think she would survive under anesthesia long enough for a standard amputation, they did not think a "guillotine amputation" (hasty form of amputation) was a good idea because of increased risk of infection, and they couldn't just leave it alone because gangrene would get her. So, they advised us to remove the breathing tube.

Advice: if you do go ahead and start smoking or dipping, write up an advance directive (directions for the sort of medical care you would wish to receive if you end up in a situation where you can't speak for yourself and are not expected to be able to speak for yourself ever again). In your advance directive, please put in the words, "If I am on monitors when you take me off life support, please turn off the sound on the monitors so that none of my relatives who sit with me will have auditory flashbacks for weeks."

You don't *think* you need to say this stuff. Jean Kerr didn't think she had to tell her kids not to eat the daisies in the kitchen table's centerpiece, either.

Three of my brothers smoked. One had his voice box removed because of cancer. He died. The other had cancer also from smoking. He died too.
My third brother and my mother died of cancer. They smoked also. I've had cancer twice and never smoked. True, you could die from something else but why push your luck. Grow up! Life is too precious to destroy your body and die young. You have your whole life ahead of you. Take care of yourself as not many people get a second chance in life. BTW, the surgery & treatments for cancer aren't fun. You lose weight. Chemo makes you puke. Just the smell of food cooking and the taste of food make you sick. With chemo you lose your body hair. You certainly won't look like a super stud then. Radiation isn't fun either. You feel like you are burning up. Both make you so tired you don't even want to get up to go to the bath room. Pain? You don't really want to hear about pain, do you? You won't be the only one suffering from cancer - your loved ones will too.
Your caregivers will be exhausted from taking care of you. Be good to yourself and have a happy and long life. As for chewing I don't think the girls will want to kiss you. It also causes cancer. Want to have the cancer eat up the inside of your mouth? If you want to really find out what cancer is like then do some volunteering with cancer patients and find out from them what it's like.
I hope you will have a happy and long, healthy life.

Both are equally bad. You can`t play foot ball after chewing or smoking . If you don`t discontinue , you will lose stamina in the long run.

You have two choices: either cancer in your lungs along with emphysema or cancer of the mouth which causes part of your face to be removed. Give it some thought and then make your choice, oh, you have one more choice, do not use tobacco at all.

Both can leave you horribly disfigured with cancer.
At least chewing will not affect your wind like smoking will.

But chewing is nasty, and it rots your teeth too.

Why not try the patch?
