The bible doesn't offend anyone except ignorant sinners. When you shed light on an offenders offenses, they get all upset, because they have been exposed. The bible exposes all sin and ignorance for all of humanity from Adam to the last human that will ever be born, so for all who are true believers, the bible cannot be an offense, because no matter how much the truth hurts, we have to accept all of it. As for unrepentant sinners who will never mature mentally and accept Gods word, there will be a day to come that they too will kneel down and confess that Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and that Gods word is absolute truth.

Agree?

Well, I consider myself a christian and the bible offends me on some points (for instance the killing of children towards the end of Numbers... Numbers 31 in think?) I'm just open minded enough to realize that just because something offends me doesn't mean it's wrong or evil. Offensive has little to do with truth and morality.

EDIT: Um, Xintro, whether the stories are true or untrue, the bible is a collection of different books all put together. Not just one book a bunch of people got together and made up. Looks like you may have to do a little tinkering with that belief of yours.... Not saying that a theological belief you develop at age 13 isn't a philosophically sound one. *cough*

I have to disagree with your first statement. Of *course* the bible offends some people, even those who are not "ignorant sinners".

For example, the permissiveness of slavery by the Law of Moses is very offensive to some. This does not mean that the bible as a whole is offensive to these people, but only that portion - and understandably so.

This is just one of many examples. Just because a passage, or section, of the bible is offensive to some does not bring into question its validity as the word of God. Nor does it demonstrate weak faith in the Christian so offended!

Rom 14:2-5 (New American Standard Bible)
2. One man has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only.
3. Let not him who eats regard with contempt him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him.
4. Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

Offended by the bible or not, the Lord is able to make a Christian of faith stand.

NO, its filled with violence, killing in the name of God, it also contradicts it self. Not even the four Gospels can agree. How are you supposed to follow Jesus if you don't know which gospel is the right one.

the most disgusting verse is (Psalms 137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy babies against the stones.

Also Moses was not even the writer of any of the first five books
The city Dan in Genesis was not even a city until the time the book of judges was written read these similarities

(Genesis 14:14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan.)(Judges 18:28 The Danites rebuilt the city and settled there. They named it Dan after their forefather Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city used to be called Laish)

Uh, No? I formulated my own theory on the bible when I was about thirteen or fourteen. Basicly, it goes like this: A bunch of guys got together and decided to write a book. A very long book, one that had many parts, not all connected, and make people happy and sad, afraid and mad, all that good stuff. So they wrote the book, but left out a lot of details. Later, a copy was found by other people, who decided to add their own spin onto it, filling in details, and so it passed along, the stories turning from innocent fiction into a huge juggernaut of religion.

Basicaly, the Bible is just another book that got blown up too big.

The Bible does not really offend me. It was written in a different time period, from a different perspective. Life was much harsher, people were a lot more cruel. That's just the way it was.
What can offend me is modern day people defending and propogating the actions of a barbaric tribal group.

Have you read the bible?

The bible is for believers not a conversion manual.

God, not man (including you), judges.

From grace comes faith (actually the word is faith/believing, active voice.)

You will not find God by reason, only by faith/believing.

Answer: Since you are not quoting scripture, I disagreed. I agree with truth, something that I am missing from this question.

Well, of course the Bible can be offensive to some people, but it's the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. I believe every word of it, and if I see I'm doing something wrong according to the Bible then I will change it!

no. i do not.

if the bible is an absolute truth. then why do NO Christians Follow it to the Letter.

they call Homosexuality an abomination. yet they eat shrimp and lobster. they wear cloths made of more than one fiber. they allow their neighbors to live if they break the sabbath and work on sunday etc. all of these things are talked about in the same chapter.

oh, by the way.

slavery should be legal. and it should also be legal for a man to sell his daughter into slavery...

if we are going to follow the bible and call it an ultimate truth.

THEN LETS FOLLOW ALL OF IT..

now pardon me. i have to go kill a man for planting tomatoes and potatoes in the same field.
