Last year when the hd tv's were not common, so i've bought a Ilo plasma EDTV which has vga input, rgb and s-video and I was wodering how could I work around on playing HD DVD player on it, would I have to use any particular hd dvd player or an extra box to get it running

If your TV has a DVI input, use an HDMI to DVI cable.
If not, just use component.
All HD players allow you to output in multiple resolutions; in your case, I would use 480p, since this is closer to the native resolution of your TV.

What's the point of an HD DVD player if your TV is not HD? It's not going to look any better so why spend the money?

in case you do not have a HDTV why does it make sense to purchase a Blu Ray participant? classic DVD's will play on a Blu Ray participant. yet back in case you do not have an HDTV what's the factor of having a Blu Ray participant? using fact without an HDTV you rather are not going to make certain between the considerable reward of Blu Ray it rather is more advantageous image.

what connectors have you got on the hd dvd player in terms of video and audio ?

i dont think its possible.....you have to have an HDTV to play HI-DEF stuff...
